Sore Muscles

What do you all do for sore muscles?  Yesterday I had to do my strength training DVD at home because it snowed & the roads were crappy so I didn't go to the gym. Well my dvd had me doing a lot of squat type exercises. Today my thighs are so sore. Even going to sit on the toilet I have to pretty much fall back on the seat. Lol TMI I know. I did go to the gym today because I probably will not get to go tomorrow because we have yet another snow storm. I did get in the hot tub today after working out for about 10 mins to kinda relax the muscles but it's still hurting pretty good. Do you think I should give it a days rest or what?

By the way, now that I've been going to the gym pretty regularly now I hate to miss a day. Missing one day makes me feel like I've missed a week. Kinda weird but that's my mind for ya!

Keep in mind R-I-C-E: rest, ice, compression, elevation. That's for the first 24 hrs when you've exerted muscles. Then heat after that, to keep the muscles limber. Others will alternate ice with heat. Rest days are good after really long workouts - but you don't really have to be inactive unless you've spent hours at an activity (e.g. long runs >2hrs, tri, race, etc), and then it's advisable to take a complete rest day to allow your muscles to rebuild and minimize repeat/stress injuries. Otherwise, if you're alternating cardio days with strength training days, you should be fine. Granted, I'm not a PT, just a runner!

Thanks! I will definitely have to remember that. I'm going to write it down so I don't forget. I plan on icing it here in just a bit for sure. I stretch before & after workouts but my legs were not used to the amount of squat exercises I did yesterday. I probably will take the day off tomorrow to allow it to rest & repair since its going to be bad weather anyway. Thanks again for the advice!

I've found that rest is best after pain like that. I thought walking would limber up my legs, but then I couldn't move for two days.

Are Epsom salts allowed post op? A warm bath in Epsom salts helps with my sore muscles. I wonder if an Epsom wrap would help ease surgery pain.
