Advice on food getting "stuck"

I'm in the pureed phase and I have had two situations where food has gotten "stuck".  It feels like it's stuck in my chest and then I start salivating profusely and have to spit a bunch. Is this the foamies? What causes food to get stuck for you? Eating too fast? Bites too big? Does it get better with time? Today I was eating the ricotta cheese bake on eggface's site.

Is there a trick to getting it unstuck faster? I did sip some water but the episode literally lasts for 10 minutes. It hurts.

Thanks for your help!!

Sincerely,

Pam

It is the flames.  Slow down when eating and over chew, maybe eat less?

Yes, eating too fast and/or too big of bites will cause things to get stuck. For me, it did get better with time - part of that is us learning our new way of eating - slower and more carefully.

I believe people have said papaya enzymes help but I never tried it. Just waited it out, although it was miserable.

Papaya enzyme does work well, at least with protein.  Not sure about other stuff.  I keep it in my purse, has saved me a couple of times.

Where do you get papaya enzymes?

Thank you,

Sounds like you got the foamies. It happens when you either eat to much, too fast or didnt chew well enough. Make sure you chew, chew, chew, measure your food and stop at the first signs of feeling full. Sometimes you don't feel it right away (which is why you measure) but some peoe have a tell, like their nose gets runny, they get the hiccups or start burping.

I had tht happen early out and it lasted two hours! So believe me, I learned my lesson! You can try papaya enzyme or just wait it out.

Yikes-2 hours!! I really can't identify a full feeling yet. Is this because I'm still eating pureed, liquidy foods? Will I be able to identify that feeling once I'm eating denser food? I do measure my foods. I ate a few bites of the ricotta bake and then completely stopped. Such a miserable feeling!

Thank you so much for your help!

Pam :)

Well, your only a few weeks out from surgery, so you likely won't have that full feeling yet. You're nerves were cut, so until they've healed you may not have that feeling, which is why they want us to measure. But you will have it soon and it's important to listen to our bodies.
