If you were told to take iron before surgery you should also have been told how much. Go back to the person who told you to take it and ask. It will depend on your iron lab tests and why you were told to take it.
I agree with Winnie. If they told you to take iron then you need to ask them what kind, how much to take and also ask if you should take it with vitamin c to help the absorption.
