beef jerky?? You thoughts on this for a protein source and snack?
My problem with it was finding some that I could chew thoroughly enough (my surgeon emphasized that chewing to "mush" was essential after RNY, partly to avoid constipation). I never found a beef jerky that broke down enough, but found a spicy pork jerky that chewed up better. I use it occasionally as a snack, but it is so much work to chew it, and has so much sodium in it, that I have it only occasionally. As long as it doesn't cause you pouch or other distress, and you only have it occasionally, it is a good source of protein and feels like a "snack" (well, to me, at least).

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I love jerky, but I read this article about how "cured meats" cause pancreatic cancer. It totally freaked me out. I do not eat very many cured meats. But I am sure jerky is cured, and I think bacon, but I do not eat that very often. Do you think we are okay, because we eat such a small amount? I work a busy 12 hour shift 4 days a week. I do not get break times, but I can keep jerky in my pocket to snack on when needed. Now I don't know what to do.
