People having WLS and are information challenged

I don't think Jane is saying that people shouldn't post questions at all.    It is very rare that anyone is chastised for a question they ask - posting rude replies when you don't get the answer you want is another matter.   Posting a question doesn't mean you get to chose *****plies or what they say.   Putting your stuff out there means you might have to be prepared to accept the truth in whatever style the replier choses!

Personally I am surprised that people will post a question rather than read or search to see if it has been asked in the last day or so ...

I have been on here around 9 years and don't think I have EVER started a thread on WLS - I have always been able to find any answers I need by reading previous posts - it is wholly possible to do that because this forum is a GOLDMINE of information if people will just take the time to read a little every day!

I'm usually on here with my phone, and what you can see is very limited. When I click on the button on the bottom that's supposed to take you to the desktop site, it just goes back to the mobile site. I've posted before when I couldn't search. Sometimes that option just isn't available.

Wow,  I too am feeling that this is should be a safe place to ask questions.  It doesn't matter how much research you do, everyones' surgery is going to be different.  I didn't expect to loose nothing for a whole month and then 5 pounds over night.  My research said 2-3 pounds a week for at least the first few months.  People often do their research but feel unasure of their experiences and ask for clarification because everyone different.  Don't forget there is a lot of differing opinions out there about everything, so Please don't judge us for asking or sharing.

Definitely agree it's our responsibility to research and to CONTINUE learning, yes we still have things we can research and learn even further out.  For instance vitamins and deficiencies......namely something I learned after a year out was the oil soluble vitamin deficiencies we may experience (Vitamin A, D, E & K and let's add in copper and magnesium deficiencies).  These were not readily explained to RNYers some years ago whereas now with others experiencing them and the ASMBS information available it was a "new learn".

The realistic or unrealistic expectations are mind-boggling too especially the stalls that happen to the MAJORITY along with how quickly people expect to lose.  These questions are asked repeatedly day in and day out....it shouldn't be a surprise.  Let's add in the GONE FOREVER post, yikes this is so untrue for many and should the poster type this and experience any regain I worry about the emotional state they will find themselves in in a few years.

I try not to be become frustrated about some things posted here and on other WLS related-boards.  Sometimes I'll just close the post and say nothing instead of being snarky and then there are times I just can't walk away without saying something.

You know, I researched a lot. Or so I thought. But once I had surgery, even though I felt informed, I was lost with some stuff. Until I went through it, I didn't understand what people meant when they talked about dumping or the foamies , for example. It took me actually living through it to understand it. I thought I had vitamins down. Then I read more stuff about it and was so confused. I wasn't as prepared as I thought I was. And the more I read on here the more I learn. I still don't feel 100% informed. That's why I come here and read as much as I do. I think I'd be lost with out this site. :D

So true, one of the reasons I stay involved.......new information evolves.  I still believe some of us long-termers are guinea pigs in the RNY world as more information is learned, late-term complications arise, etc.  If there is one thing I try to reiterate to people I've spoken with is to stay involved in the WLS community and continue to research and learn.

^^^^^^  this 100%.

It's not a coincidence that those of us that still hang out here 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 years after surgery are successful.   We are NOT just sadasses with no lives which I was accused of just a couple of weeks ago LOL!

Wait.........how did I miss that?  You are a sad ass with no life?  How do you squeeze in all the other stuff you do when you have "no life"??  THAT there is funny!

You are correct, Kim, that many "vets" are successful long term because NOT ONLY DID THEY CHANGE THEIR LIVES 100%, they also stay active in the community, which I think keeps us plugged in and grounded.

As for the topic of this thread..........I don't mind any and all questions........what I DO mind is someone dictating how we might answer those questions. This is the damn internet people and guess what?  There is a healthy dose of freakin crazy assed trolls on this site.....if you put something out here, then you get responses--PERIOD.  Glean from that what you will, and ignore the ones you don't like.

This isn't a "safe place"............no safer than any other internet site.  There are no IQ tests or sensitivity  tests given to the folks that use it.......so put your questions out there, and expect nothing and everything in return.

Well said, I agree totally and I also learn more by reading the other posts.  It amazes me how much I don't know, and I hope I keep my mind open for more knowledge.

I'm like Rainbow RN (maybe its the RN thing!) but I researched for over 15 years - that was my first denial as well.  Unfortunately I think its human nature, or American nature to just want a quick fix.  I so wish that I could lose 100 lbs in three months, but despite my disappointment I knew from the outset it wasn't happening.  I think the only thing that surprised me about this surgery was the ulcers.  I had read about them later on, just didn't expect to have them so badly at 3 weeks post-op.  Oh yeah, and despite people saying they were low energy etc. for several months, I was surprised that it happened to me.  Like maybe I think I'm special or something....!  I'm not afraid to ask a dumb question on here and feel that even if I get some honest truth, its what I need.  This website has been the best thing going for me, I am so grateful you guys are here.  And really, really grateful for the vets that keep hanging out, giving back, and keep on posting and responding after all these years.  Wow man, but if someone comes up with some kind of way to lose a 100 lbs. in three months, I'd be SUPER grateful!  lol
