What is this brown smelly liquid that comes out of me when I am trying to make a bowel...
Okay I know this might sound like it is TMI but I need to know. Ok I had surgery on 4/8. Since 4/11 and on when I try to make a bowel movement I get this brown smelly liquid that comes out of me. It doesn't happen all the time though. Nor is it a lot. Even when I do pass some hard bowel movement, the brown smelly liquid is attached to it to like covered in it. Sometimes when I pass wind the little brown liquid comes out. I don't know what this is but it is very annoying. This is a bit embarrassing for me to write this so please don't make silly comments. I mentioned it to my doctor. He said it was normal. I was wondering if anyone else has dealt with this issue? Oh by the way, I dont feel sick when it happens or anything..... So what is going on?
It is normal, as your doctor said. It is basically a small amount of very watery diarrhea. When you are not eating a lot, there is not a lot for your body to use to form a solid stool, but it still has to process what you put into it. It will pass as you start to eat more. Diarrhea is also very common after surgery while your body heals and adjusts.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
That would be poop. You still have some watery stool left as a result of surgery. Wear a menstrual pad until you stop having issues when you pass wind.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
YEP it is awful but after this type of MAJOR surgery it is normal. I had the same in the hospital but was very bloody for 3 days...then that stopped and when I went home I had the brown smelly liquid for about one month. Wish I had it back because I've gone the other way now. NOTHING...constapation all the time ugh!. When I was in your shoes, my Doctor said go buy OVERNIGHT POISE pads and a small bag of depends if I was worried being out in public... YEP...good thing I did. Save my dignity 3 or 4 times.
I still keep some with me even six months out. Just in case.
Good luck and glad you asked.

Thanks for posting! I'm 8days out & everytime I drink broth, or a protein drink it sends me running! I really wish this would go away I have two weeks before I go back to work. I pray this will slow down, I don't see how I can make 60-80g protein! I'd never get off the toliet!
