You have got to be freakin kidding me!! Rant....

I got my approval from insurance yesterday. I have went through all the testing and was getting ready to get my surgery date as soon as the Dr Signed yhethe orders. Well found out this AM that I owed the hospital bill from over 4 years ago. I guess my insurance didn't cover it at that time?? needless to say the hospital won't let me have my surgery there unlessless I pay this four thousand dollar bill. I am unemployed with 3 kids. we only have my husbands income, so of course I don't have the money to pay it. my coordinator tried to talk to the director, but she said there was nothing she could do because the bill isis so old. so I had to find another surgeon at a different hospital now. I go tomorrow to pick up a copy of my medical records. the surgeon's office said I don't have to go through all the testing again. But I think this is seriously messed up. I am so upset! Our insurance covers 100 percent. I didn't think there would have been a problem.

Research what was it and why insurance did not pay - when they were suppose to pay.  They still should be responsible - unless the hospital did not bill them correctly. Even if you decide to use another hospital - you never know when that old bill would service again and hurt you. 

I agree find out why ins. didn't pay for that. 4000 is a huge chunk of change and I am surprised they haven't been coming after you for money. But you want to get it taken care of in case you need to get a loan or heck even jobs look at your credit report. You don't want it to haunt you.

Thanks. I will call Insurance. I didn't even know I had a bill. I even called a few weeks ago and they said I owed $50. So I paid it thinking that was all. It was very upsetting to find out different.

My hospital would work with you like a payment fee schedule. four years ago? is it yours? Ask for a copy and go by it line by line...it would be nice its not yours and that they added wrong like twice for 1 item. Find out what it is and talk with your insurance company. its a shame you had come to really like your Dr and the staff. I hope all works out for you in your favor

thank goodness. my original hospital called me about 20 minutes ago and said they would make an exception and let me make payments. since our insurance pays 100 percent. so hopefully things will move along.

That's a little stupid of the hospital actually.  They won't be getting that $4000 regardless...and now they're turning down guaranteed income from your insurance.  They're losing out twice.  Not smart at all.
