Back from Hiking Trip in the Smoky Mountains
DH and I just got back from 5 days of rest and relaxation and hiking in the mountains. We saw a bear again!! I love the fresh air and the wildlife and the hiking. Although 5 miles up the side of a mountain is killer on the calves and we both walked funny for the rest of the trip! Here's a pic of me crossing the icy cold creek....on the way up the mountain I walked across a fallen tree...which was terrifying (with a backpack and bad knees it is hard to balance)....so on the way back I told DH I was just going into the water! I actually carry water shoes and a small towel in my backpack for these situations. After all those miles, the cold water felt pretty good. I am approaching 4 years out next week and am forever grateful that I learned about WLS and how wonderful life can be after!
Kim, that's awesome! Looks like you had a great trip!!

One of the goals I set for myself after WLS was to go on another backpacking trip with my son into the Sierra Nevada. Last August, I did just that. It was thrilling.
We covered about 30 miles in four days, setting up camps three times at altitudes up to 9,000 feet My pack was somewhere around 60 pounds. I had zero problems.
Hope to be able to do it again this summer, if the kid is available. By the way, I'm 67. Ain't life grand?
