So you're in the OR and they put you to sleep. Then what? Where do you wake up? Will someone put my glasses on so I can see?

You'll wake up in the recovery room.  You'll probably need to ask for your glasses.  I really hate to be without mine, I can barely see a thing without them, so before I went into the OR I told them I needed them to have my glasses nearby so they could give them to me the instant I woke up.  And they did.  I had them on until I went into the OR and got them back the minute I woke up.

In my experience they'll put you in a pre-op holding area and begin your vitals and IV. They usually give you meds to get you somewhat sedated before you get in the OR. After they'll take you to recovery. I've had several surgies and the only time I remember seeing the OR was for my WLS.

You will have to mention to them you'll need your glasses after to see.

You'll awaken in recovery and you'll put your glasses on when you are ready - all your property will be with you in recovery ...

Before my surgery on 4/25, I never had done this either. The nurses were very nice and explained to me what to expect. The last thing I remember is them putting a mask on me and telling me to take a few deep breaths. The next thing I remember is waking up like when you had experienced a yucky night of sleep, and the alarm goes off. That feeling of I just want to go back to sleep. I stayed like that until I was in my room for a while. - I hope this helps

Thank you, ladies. Will my mother be there when I wake up or does that come later?

Your mother will not be in the recovery room, but will be able to be with you when hey later take you up to your hospital room.  Most people aren't really awake in the recovery room... mostly kind of in and out.  Even once you get to your room, you may or may not even remember she was there. It depends on how "dopey" you still are from anesthesia and pain meds.

I expect to be a YouTube sensation. I had three epidurals years ago for a herniated disk. After the first one I was so high I wanted the nurse to run me through the parking lot in my wheelchair. I tried really hard not to ask, but my friend said I did. I do remember saying woooooo as she wheeled me through the waiting room.

they apparently brought my parents to me in the recovery room once i was "awake" and talked with me and the surgeon. i remember none of this. the first thing i remember is them wheeling me to my room, and my parents were there with me then.

I am sure I woke up in recovery but I don't remember it. I do remember lying on the steel table in the OR till the anesthesiologist knocked me out. I think she was tired of my whining and all the tears. Then surgery then recovery then the patient room. I remember waking up when they wheeled me into the room that night. My husband had my bag of street clothes etc. that I took off in pre op. if I wore glasses he would have had them. It is all a blur though.
