PAIN! Is this normal?
I am 11 days post-op. I am having hideous pain that is very sharp and has a burn to it when I bend over, mainly if it is a lateral or oblique turn on my left side. I talked to my surgeon when it began, which was Wed. and at that time it occurred fairly minimally. My surgeon told me it was an area of tight suturing. I am also thinking maybe it is a cut and sutured portion with muscle involved. Now, the pain is whenever I bend, or lie down, or stand up, or any kind of bendy or unbendy movement.
Has anyone else had this? How long did it last? I am not having problems with my food or fluids. I go to the bathroom fairly normally. I can't see any bruising or swelling.
Any help, ideas, or commiserating is appreciated. Thanks!
I had similar pain that turned out to be a seroma for me. Once it popped and my body started reabsorbing the fluids it went away. I was told it happens at the left side for my doctor because that is where the big stapler tool goes in and where most of the trauma is done inside. If the pain is still there on Monday call your doctor and ask to be seen. If it becomes unmanageable over the weekend go to the ER as it could be any number of things.
I am 12 days post op and I had a similar feeling the day I left the hospital. I experienced pressure, pain and soreness around the left upper quadrant. Well, 3 days later at about 3am, I got up to go the bathroom. The pain was soo intense that I could not walk. My husband helped me to the bathroom and back. I fell into the bed and could not move. My husband dressed me and called 911. I ended up having an abdominal hematoma and a pocket of infection which was over 60cc so a drain was placed. I had not had a drain prior to this. The pain was immediately better after the infection was removed by interventional radiology where the drain was placed. My hesitation resulted in a 4 day hospital stay. I went home this past wednesday and have been ok since. The drainage tube will be in place until next wednesday. The only pain I feel is from the drain itself. I should have told my doctor as soon as I felt the pressure and burning pain. I would have still had to go to the hospital but I could have saved myself some pain. Please, tell your surgeon before it results in an infection.
Feel better :)
