I am 5 days post op, I am not having any issues getting all my water and protein in. I can drink them both just as fast as I did before surgery. I have some incision pain still, that's about it. The nurse called to check on me today and I told her this and she said "oh your one of the rare few" I guess I just thought I would only be able to sip. I know it's just liquids, just seems odd.

You are not alone, I am exactly one week out too and I have no problems with drinking my protein shake or water or even unsweetened tea.
I do however try to drink slowly because I really would like to avoid any unnecessary pain if I can. Besides I don't get to enjoy too much in the way of food/eating right now so drinking those chocolate flavored shakes as slow as possible is kind of enjoyable.
However I sometimes feel a little guilty that I am not having a lot of the issues others are experiencing.

I say enjoy your good fortune and move on to better health sooner!

Good luck

Thank you, I'm glad I'm not alone. I try to take it slow as well.

I don't know why the nurse would say you are one of the "rare few".  You are actually part of the majority.

You're definitely not alone.  I can swallow normally.  I can't gulp or chug liquids.  But I can drink at a normal pace.  Sounds like you're doing beautifully.  Yay, you!

I thought the same thing after a month or so. I wondered if they really did the surgery at all. Then I failed to chew one tiny bite of food quite enough, and thought I was going to die. I was in all kinds of pain and distress for about an hour, and finally a gallon of the grossest perfectly clear, thick, thick, really thick gunk came back up, with just one teeny nugget of food in it. That's what overconfidence gets you.

So enjoy the lack of pain and complications. I didn't have any other problems either. But make sure you do what you need to.
