Anyone regret getting rny?

RNY on 07/11/13
I am torn between the sleeve and rny. I should be scheduling my surgery pretty soon and I want to make sure I make the right decision. I've done so much research on both and I'm still torn! I'm afraid that if I get the sleeve that I won't be happy with the results and its my only chance to do this so I want to make the right decision the first time. I know that it's only a tool. But I just want to succeed with this. Anyone have the rny and wish they would have gone with the sleeve?

Not me, I do not have experience with the sleeve but I am very happy with my RNY. Surgery was on 1/28/13 and I have lost 74 lbs so far.

I don't regret having the RNY since the sleeve wasn't an option 6 years ago, but if I were doing it now I would do the sleeve.  Once you get to about 18 months out, you lose the caloric malabsorption from the bypass, so you end up with just a restrictive procedure for the rest of your life anyway (and it matters little whether it is pouch or sleeve) but you still have the hassle of taking vitamin supplements three times a day very day, and having to get routine lab work to make sure you don't develop vitamin deficiencies (which can be dangerous).  Not to mention not being able to take any NSAIDs for pain/inflammation for he rest of your life.  The somewhat quicker weight loss isnt worth the vitamin absorption issues and lack of NSAIDs IMO.

The statistics that the ASMBS recently published indicate that the weight loss with RNY and the sleeve is pretty comparable at 2 years out, and by 5 years out, the percentage of weight lost and MAINTAINED is very close (and boils down to how stringent individuals are with following the food plan, not which type of surgery they had).

p.s.  almost everyone who is still in the losing phase of RNY will have nothing but glowing things to say.  The perspective is often different several years down the road when the elation of losing weight wears off and real life and living with the surgery and the vitamins and the restrictions really hits home.

No regrets. If I were researching or preparing for surgery today I'd have the DS over RNY. Stastically the long-term weight loss is best as is the cure for diabetes and maintaining low cholesterol levels. Also, I'd prefer the option of NSAIDS. As I get older I wish I had the option for NSAIDS for inflammation.

Sleeve is a problem for people who have any kind of reflux. Many people who had manageable reflux before the surgery can no longer get any relief afterwards. They usually wind up converting to RNY.

No regrets.  The sleeve would never worked for me, I needed the negative reenforcement of dumping to keep ice cream off limits, Ben & Jerry single handedly added 100lbs to my weight, food was never my thing, sweets were it.  At goal for 8 years now.

I have absolutely no regrets.  I have the RNY and have been living awesomely with it for over 6 years now and in maintenance for life and loving it.  Total loss 203 pounds from highest weight and keeping every ounce of it off for 6 years almost 4 months now. IF I were to be researching and going for surgery TODAY I would DEFINITELY choose the DS (duodenal switch) over ANY other procedure because it would best address MY past medical issues which are all in remission ...

I am just a few weeks out, but no regrets here. My husband is 8 months out and NO regrets from him. Well, I take that back, we both wish we'd done this years ago! ;)

That isn't to say we might not be happy with another choice, but we're both pleased with RNY overall.

I had RNY 5 years ago. My doc did not do sleeve at that time. If he did - that would be my first choice.
