How do you take multiple pills?

I'm on a lot of pills right now. Someone commented the other day that it takes them an hour to take their pills. How long do you wait between each pill?

I take mine one right after the other as quickly as I can get them down. Takes me just a couple of minutes to swallow, chew and diasolve sub-lingually all my pills each am. Pre surgery I took all my pills (a small handful) all at once.

I'm 7 months post op and now I only wait a few seconds between or until a feel ready ( I take 11 pills in the morning) it takes me less than a minute now.  Then I take my calcium 2 hours after that and then my second dose of multi and calcum 2 hours after that and at night I take my Iron and vit C. When I was just out of surgery it was harder but I did chewables the first month and spaced things out more, it get's easier the more time passes.

I swallow all of them together (the ones that CAN be taken together, that is), or break them into two swallows.

Once you are a couple of weeks out and the pouch has healed a bit, there is no need to take pills one at a time, and even if you do, just take a swig of water after each one to wa**** through the stoma and then  take the next pill.  People really make things much more complicated than they need to be sometimes.  Yes, I know, some people's surgeons are ULTRA conservative and cautious, but the worst thing that can happen when taking pills is one gets temporarily stuck (they dissolve quickly).

IMO, It should never take someone an hour to take all their pills, and they should ask their doctor for justification of WHY this is necessary.

^^^^  this!   I'm not sure why some people make life so difficult for themselves - I've been chugging mine down since day one and have NEVER got one stuck - or at least nothing that a swig of water/tea/whatever wouldn't shift!

An hour to take pills?  How on earth do you eat your meals in 15-20 minutes and take an hour to take a handful of vitamins?

I heartily second both these posts, particularly the people making things more difficult for themselves sentiment.  Not the OP (original poster) necessarily, but people in general.

Aside from the first ten days post op, my pills go in the palm of my hand, dump them in the mouth, a slug of water, voila -- pills in.

I once took my evening pill in the morning because I was too groggy and messed up. It had barely gone down before I realized my problem. I immediately went into the bathroom to induce vomiting but I had no luck. My guess is that the aspirin sized med had already passed right on through my stomach into my intestines.

I spent the day groggy as heck, but I made it.

I agree though that it shouldn't take that long to take pills. I do have some pills that invariably get stuck in my esophagus, and then I have to eat something in hopes of getting it to move on. It's always the same pill, an extremely bitter one that is very chalky and grainy in surface structure, so it gets caught all the time. If I take it with other pills though, I rarely have any issues.

my surgeon did encourage splitting pills for the first 8 weeks, while we were on only fluids or soft foods, but he was very much a "take it easy, but get on with life after 8 weeks" kind of guy. I don't feel like a freak of nature, doomed to a life of weird behavior because of my surgery. I'm just a normal person who eats tiny meals.

Well, this morning I only had four pills to take (some mornings I have six), two calcium citrate pills, a multi and a turmeric capsules, all of which are pretty big.   I swallowed them two at a time.  I might have waited two or three seconds after swallowing the first two, before swallowing the second two.

At bedtime I take four pills, three iron tablets (which are small) and a vitamin C (which is bigger).  I swallow all four of those in one swallow.

I can't imagine why it would take a whole hour to take pills, even if you had to take a lot of pills.  I don't know of any reason you'd need to wait more than a minute or two between pills.
