5yr post-rny considering revision

I lost 200lbs and have gained 40lbs back since loss of both parents. I was considering getting a revision to the rny I had in 2008. I was wondering if anyone else here has had the revision or gone from rny to DS?

40 lbs, I would just kick it in high gear, get working out and eating right and not undergo surgery. You can do it! The pouch will not fail you!

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

I wouldn't have surgery again for just 40 pounds, and I honestly don't know of any insurance company that would pay for it.  I am not sure what you are expecting them to revise on your RNY.  Have you had a EGD done that shows your pouch is significantly larger than it should be or that your stoma is too big?

The truth is that you gained the weight not because your surgery "failed" in any way but because you were stressed/depressed and were overeating because of it.   No surgery will fix your brain/behavior.  You still have the tool you ahem always had (although obviously at this point your caloric malabsorption is long gone).  If you go back to basics -- protein first, limited carbs, limited (measured, if necessary) portions, lots of water but never with, or right after, meals -- you can get those 40 pounds back off.

Very few surgeons do an RNY to DS revision because it is so difficult and it goes along with a not inconsiderable risk.    I doubt any of them will do one for a 40lb regain and certainly no insurance company would pay for it!     It's time for you to go to work to lose the 40lb regain by getting back to basics.

I also should have mentioned I didnt lose all the weight I needed with that 200 lbs. That still left me 30lbs over, plus the 40 I have regained makes it 70lbs over but I get the point.

Please try to get back to basics before even thinking about revision. The RNY to DS revision is very dangerous. Check out the DS forum. There is a post from someone who had one of the top surgeons perform hers and she has been in the hospital over a month.

You can do this. Baby steps!!
