FINALLY! Lithotripsy done!

Well, it was an interesting morning -- a change of procedure (he decided he didn't need to do the dye injection when he saw the detailed X-ray report and the new X-rays from this morning... Even though they are uric acid stones, he could see faint outlines of them) and then a half hour delay while they consulted a vascular surgeon about possible problems with my IVC filter -- but the lithotripsy is done and I am home.  I have some pain, but nothing like what I was having sporadically throughout the past 2 weeks.  The worst part is that my mouth is horribly dry and my ability to produce saliva seems to be temporarily impaired.  I have been home an hour and am already on my third SF Popsicle!

The urologist was concerned because the "blast range" for the largest stone included a small portion of my IVC filter and the urologist was not sure if there was the possibility of the sound waves dislodging the filter or causing the filter to damage the wall of the vein.  The vascular surgeon wasn't concerned about that, but WAS concerned that any clot trapped by the filter would be dislodged and then potentially become a PE.  I had to sign a release indicating that I understood the risk and still wanted them to do the lithotripsy.

So, as long as I don't develop any sudden chest pain, and the considerable amount of blood and small clot pieces in my urine gradually subsides over the next two days, I am good.  Finally!

Oh gosh, I am SO, SO glad! That is just wonderful news! I have been looking for a post from you each time I have logged on today!

If the dry mouth continues, there is a gum sold at virtually every sports store around here and helps when you are short on saliva and my boys both swear by it! They used to have to run 5-7 miles several days a week and always took that gum with them on those days.

YAY--I hope that this ends your pain!!!

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

I was relieved that they did not have to do the scope and the dye.

I wish I had known about the gum earlier today!  I have never had that happen after surgery (and God knows I have had MORE than my fair share of surgeries!)  They wouldn't let me leave until i ate some crackers and they were sure I wasn't going to get sick, but i had to take a drink with every single bite of cracker so I could even chew it, let alone swallow it... the crackers were sticking to my tongue! It is much better now, but I have been sipping almost non-stop and have had SIX of the SF Popsicles since about 2pm!  I am now out of Popsicles, so hopefully I won't have to take any Vicodin tomorrow and can go out (in my beautiful, fast new car, LOL) and get some more.  NOT having Popsicles in the freezer is almost as big a "grocery emergency" as being out of Greek yogurt (which, in actuality, has NEVER happened because I always buy extra) or out of dog treats for Gus!
