Just a reminder, we need three or four doses of calcium citrate a day

I actually prefer a multi with  no iron because then I can take it with my calcium (calcium blocks the absorption of iron).

Most of us need more iron then we'd get from a multi anyway, so if I'm already taking extra iron, I don't mind taking a bit more to make up for the lack of iron in my multi.

Also, the type of iron in most multis is ferrous sulfate or one of the other iron salts, which frequently does cause constipation.  However, carbonyl iron usually does not cause constipation, and as a bonus, it's absorbed better in a low acid environment like our pouch.

But.  If you want a multi with iron, I think Celebrate now has multis with and without iron.

Thanks - I agree that probably due to the spacing of the supplements I should probably keep the two separate then. Are the Bariatric Advantage iron chewables any good for iron supplementation?

Yep, they are carbonyl iron.

I religiously take my 3 BA calciums a day. My six weeks appt is Wednesday so I will have my first post op labs. What do I really need to look at level wise this soon out? My doc didnt put me on iron until these labs are done to see if I will need it.

I'm not sure you need any labs before 12 weeks post op.   But you will need iron.  The ASMBS says we should start taking our iron as soon as we are discharged from the hospital.  I don't understand waiting until we develop a deficiency to start taking it, although I know that is how some doctors like to do it.  Personally, I prefer to avoid developing deficiencies if I can.

You and me both! He said its because my iron levels were so good that I had enough stores of iron that I didnt need extra yet. But I am wondering if that is not helping my only complaint which is fatigue.

My surgeon's office gave me a bottle of Celebrate chewable calcium citrate (chocolate!). The label says 1000 mg. I plan on cutting them in half. I figured it won't matter since they're chewable.

Mt roommate is a chocoholic and licked the cotton when I pulled it out to look at the tablets. That's a good sign. I know he won't touch them. He's really cute about supporting my new lifestyle.

Check that label carefully.  It's probably 1000 mg for two or four tablets, not for one tablet.

You're right. It's four tablets. That makes it a lot easier.
