I have taken it a couple times. It helped with depression however I didn't have any pain so I'm not sure about it helping that. I did have nausea the first couple weeks and it eventually went away. Over all I had a good experience although everyone is different.

I would strongly suggest you NOT take Cymbalta!  I have heard too many stories of people who are pretty much hooked on it and think suicide is the only way out.  It does things to your brain!  I am sure it helps some people, but if there is any other way you can handle the depression, please don't take Cymbalta!  I'm currently increasing my dosage of Prozak to help with mine.

Good luck.

Every antidepressant has people who commit suicide (I used to be a supervisor at a mental health agency).  People who are suicidal often take antidepressants therefore you will have some people on every antidepressant who commit suicide.

Exactly.  Because of the very nature of depression, the suicide rate for people taking antidepressants is much higher than for the general population.  It is likely that these people would have committed suicide with or without the antidepressants.  They often commit suicide when the first or second medication they take isn't helping enough (or they don't wait 3-4 weeks for the medication to FULLY kick in).  They become discouraged and then despondent, believing they are "hopeless" and that no medication will help.

There are a number of studies that have shown significant increases in suicide of teens and people in their early twenties when on SSRIs, so that are not recommended for that population, but the people prescribing them should be aware of that.

I currently (preop) alternate daily between 60 mg and 90 mg. if I don't absorb enough after surgery, we're going to try 90 mg every day. There is no immediate release.
