Scared to go under!
I have asthma and had surgery all went well. As long as your surgeon and anesthesiologist know about it they will take care of it. Mine went well. They kept me on oxygen a little longer and had me on my APAP machine, but no problems and all went very well.

As Larry said, as long as the surgeon and anesthesiologist know about the asthma, they will be prepared to treat you appropriately. There will be someone monitoring your breathing at all times during the surgery and if they know about the asthma, they will be prepared to deal with anything that comes up.
Make a plan to talk to the anesthesiologist about the asthma when you are in the surgical prep area (they always come in to ask questions beforehand). That will enable you to get the reassurance you need before surgery (and, hopefully, just knowing that you can talk with them about it and get all your concerns addressed before surgery will make you feel less anxious now).

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
They will monitor you very closely. I had to have additional oxygen for about 24 hours after surgery because I was stopping breathing quite frequently and they monitored me the whole time. You will be ok as long as they know and if you're nervous about it , like Lora said, make sure to talk to the anesthesiologist before surgery when they come to check on you.
