I'mma size 12??? I'MMA SIZE 12!!!
I couldn't believe it! When I went shopping today the 14's were a little big, so I decided to try a 12, doubting that I could squeeze in it. But low and behold, I not only squeezed in it, I actually FIT in it, quite comfortably. I must say, I wear it well. I got a dress and a skirt size 12 and a blouse and another skirt size L. This coming from a tight 24 comfortable 26! I haven't been this size since 1994!!!
in other news, I have absolutely NO core strength. Tried doing sit-ups today with the assistance of a workout ball and now my back is killing me. That's even after having my latest steroid injection this past Monday. I have tried Pilates and had terrible back issues doing that. I've tried PT exercises for the back, but it kills me to do those. I really don't want to have back surgery, but I may have to. My spine specialist said we can try one or procedure, but I can't remember what it is called. He said the will insert a needle and heat the nerve to deaden and that it would last about 8-12 months. Anyone know what this is called? Any suggestions in strengthening my back without hurting it too badly?

Missy, I am so happy for you being in size 12! As far as back problems, I can relate. I have had 5 back surgeries over the years starting when I was 24 and now I am 59. I tried every kind of work out over the years and for 12 years I did maintain very well with exercise. The problem is, you have to get fit when your back is strong and stay fit cuz when you try and start when your back is bad, it is so hard and SO discouraging!!!!! You keep trying and then your back is out. I know how it feels....I was told by my back doctor not to do yoga.
Over a year ago I discovered Pilates on the reformer machine only. NOT mat Pilates!!! I wonder if you did mat Pilates or reformer Pilates? I started in a beginner class on the reformer and I went from totally no core to strong core and worked my way up to level 3 of the traditional Pilates on reformer. It was the best thing for my back! But, my back is fused now at the lowest 3 levels and I don't have active pinched nerves now.
On the reformer I did not do anything that was directly using my back or stomach muscles. Over a year it really did work. It didn't feel like a hard workout at the time and my habit would be to over do it to feel like I really worked out. Can you walk? That is another thing that could help, if you can do it without pain now.
I wish the best to you, as I said I have been there and it is very hard to get in shape with a bad back. Tracy
