Cut me open this morning!

My doctor came in early this morning to check out my huge bulge and he decided that it was definitely a hematoma but didn't think I'd need surgery but a hematoma is definitely too thick to asperate through a syringe. He ended up opening up my incision bedside in my room and when he opened it it was like a volcano had erupted!!  I could look at it and tell and smell that an infection had started. They got all of it pushed out and cleaned it out with saline  the only bad parts is that they left it open for it to finish draining and I'm going to have to get my mom who is a nurse to clean it and change the packing everyday until it heals. It already feels so much better. I can move with out it feeling like my stomach is going to pop open or like I was about to die from pain! I'm getting ready to be discharged to go home now! Woohoo

I could not agree more if I were twins!

Glad they drained it, sounds like an issue just waiting to happen if they'd let it go!

Glad to hear that you didn't need surgery for that. Good thing you listened to your instincts and followed thru with your Dr.

I hope you feel better soon!

Purple,

I am almost 2 weeks out. Last Thursday I noticed pain under my larger incision and a small knot. They ruled it out as scar tissue that would go away on its own. As the days went by the knot turned into a huge bulge that hurt like crazy! My dr was out of town and I couldn't get any information out of the on call drs so Saturday night I decided to go to my local er and get it looked at again. They did a ct scan and it showed a blood collection and they transported me to the hospital where my dr is at and today he decided to drain it. I've looked up alot of information about a hematoma and its pretty much a collection of blood that can collect in one area. It's from all of the blood vessels and stuff that the dr had to cut through during surgery. Normally you'd have a place for it to bleed out but since the incision was closed after surgery it just collected there in that one spot getting bigger, trying to get out.

Me too! Now to deal with my mom having to

change the packing in it everyday until its healed.....she's a nurse so she knows what she's doing but shoving gauze into a hole on your body is not comfortable no matter who is doing it! It does feel a great deal better though!
