Dying from WLS
Taking control of your health is up to you. The fastest way for me to get rid of diabetes, hypertension, and migraines was my bypass. Heart attacks and strokes run in my family. I believe having this bypass is going to help me live longer.
Before I went into surgery, I thought about what if I don't come out alive. And I was ready to take that chance b/c my life and health were deteriorating.
I knew someone from OH as well who died last year, about 6 years after his GB, he started to get diff health problems but what was fatal for him was liverfailure after having liverproblems for a while. He used to be a member on here if i remember.
Now, I have an operation scheduled end of september to reverse my distal gb completely due to diff health problems, started with sugar, pancreasproblems and last few months severe liver crisises. I had my regular gb 8 years ago and because i gained weight back i had a distal gb 4 years ago. In my case it didn't work out so it has to be reversed.
Is there anyone on here who had this done also for medical reasons or know someone who had it done because all info is welcome, thanks
I haven't ready every reply, so if this has been addressed, I apologize.
Dying from a surgery, means you died from the actual procedure. Like, on the table, or within a short period of time afterward. Did these people dye soon after the surgery? Or was it years down the line? There's a lot of factors to consider. Were they compliant with nutrition and supplements? Did they seek medical help when the complications arose? Did they have other comorbidities that contributed to their death?
MANY times when people hear a out people dying "from WLS", their death has nothing to do with the surgery itself. It is often caused by health issues that were not yet resolved (or were permanent) such as heart problems. People attribute it to the surgery, though. I would ask for more specific information about what, specifically, was the official cause of death.
I personally have never even heard of anyone dying from malnutrition or vitamin deficiencies, but people who are MO or SMO are higher surgical risks and often already have medical problems. Even with that, though, my surgeon indicated the death rate from RNY isn't any high in THAT population that for any other kind of surgery. It would be very uncommon for one person to know TWO people who died from WLS. Ask more questions...

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I have read about and knew people who died because they DID NOT have WLS and died of obesity related problems.
