Medical Bracelets.

After my surgery I was given a little card to carry in my wallet that said I had RNY .  It says , " Don't place NG tube blindly. "  I was  talking to the nurse about this. What if no one bothers looking in your wallet  ? Or if you're out for a walk , with no i.d  and you're hurt.  Life happens , we're not always carrying a purse or wallet,

So my question is how many of you wear medical ID bracelets ? I'm thinking of getting one. Just to be sure I'm treated correctly if something unforeseen should happen .

I have one, during my visits with the nurse before surgery she said that it was a good idea to always have one on just in case. My kids are young and I don't believe that in the heat of the moment that my husband, kids, friends or family would be able to rhyme off the instructions as to what I need and what I don't. It makes me feel safe, I just hope it never gets used.

It would be VERY rare for an EMT to need to put in an NG tube.  A breathing tube, perhaps, but not a tube into your pouch/stomach.

I have one, and it does mention my RNY, but only because I lost mine and had to replace it after I had my RNY. I have it MUCH more because I take blood thinners... and I only wear it about half the time, even because of that.  It is only needed if you are unable to speak and all but one of the people I know IRL who bought one after their RNY (and some paid $100 for fancy ones) stopped wearing them after a few months.

if it makes you feel better to wear one, though, get one.

OK, so a paramedic maybe not, but at the hospital they might.

Still very unlikely that they would want to put a tube into your stomach (unless you have overdosed and they want to give you charcoal)...

Which happened to me once, years before my RNY, and I was not conscious and could not have told them not to insert it blindly.
