Going out to breakfast with family, can I have a toasted bagel with cream cheese?

Before I try anything new I always come here and ask. I am about to head out to breakfast with the family. We are going to the local bagel shop. So I was wondering if I can have a toasted onion or plain bagel with cream cheese? In 3 days i will be 4 months out... Has anyone tried it?

Bagels are one of the "whites" that we are supposed to avoid.. not to mention that it is a very dense "bread".  You aren't very far out... if I were you I would not even attempt it!  It would not be a fun thing to be out with friends/family and end up in the bathroom.

Didn't your Surgeon/Nut give you a plan to follow with the foods to avoid?  I'm only asking because some do have a Wonderful follow up, and others don't.

When in doubt.. don't.. especially in public.  If you are going to try something new, don't do it in a public place...  and at your stage after surgery... follow your nut's plan as closely as possible!

It's clearly not an optimal choice for a meal.  However, you will probably want to enjoy a sub-optimal food from time to time and only you can decide for yourself if you want to cross that bridge at four months post-op.

pretty dense & hard to chew, personally I would avoid it,, there is no nutritional value in it at this point of your plan, Is there other choices, eggs with cheese?   I agree with trying new foods at home, you never knowwwww....

What about an egg, meat, cheese bagel? Just don't eat the bagel. I've done that.

Can you have that? sure you can.. will that agree with you - who knows,, should you have that - probably not...

I stay away from breads - even at 5 years out.. bread and I do not get along. For one - bread was always my weakness - I love bread.. and 2.. bread - specially white bread has so many carbs and very little other value..(and bagels are so carb dense)

I don't want to find out that bagels agree with me... so I pretend they do not ... I pretend that they will hurt my pouch if I try to eat that.  same as any other white bread product, pasta, and white rice..

Out NUT said if we introduce grains to soon ( before 6 months) it'll slow down the weight loss , a lot.  So depends on how close you are to goal.

I would not have been able to eat even a little bit of a bagel at 4 months put.  Bagels are very chewy and gummy and even toasted are going to be a "gummy" (translate "get stuck") texture when chewed.  Besides, bagels offer you NOTHING but carbs and take up a huge amount of pouch space! My advice is to skip the bagels for several more months.

I wouldn't even think of trying a bagel. You should be avoiding high carbs... If you are going to a bagel place with friends/family for breakfast, have their fruit yogurt WITHOUT the granola. It sounds like you are still struggling to make good choices... When I thinks of a bagel, I think 'pain' and that's enough for me to avoid it!

Bagels are too thick and loaded with carbs. I would suggest toast, eggs and bacon.
