Hi All,

I'm seven weeks post op.  I stopped my birth control pills for the surgery but would like to continue them again.  I know there's a lot of conflicting information out there about whether they'll be effective or not.  I was just wondering, how many of you use the pill for birth control all by itself??  Thanks!

Hi, I am on birth control but we also use condoms to be extra safe. My NUT said that they should be effective. You might want to ask your surgeon. Cause you definitely do not want to get pregnant during the first year after surgery.

Good luck :)

I'm not on the pill, but my program says if you use the pill, you absolutely must use an additional form of contraceptive.

I'd been on the pill postop and we additionally used condoms (which is real fun when you're married.... it's like putting training wheels back on) but the pill caused me a weird side effect - nearly toxic copper levels! I got the Mirena inserted at 7 mo and copper levels went back to normal and no risk of PG!

I returned to the pill post op. Restarted at 1 month post op, but used back up method until about 5-6 months. By then my period was mostly back to normal and my surgeon and gynecologist both felt I was adequately covered with pills alone.
I M almost 1 year and have not had any problems with unexpected pregnancy
