NSV Hawaiian dress

Last summer, my sister-in-law brought a gorgeous dress back from Hawaii for my daughter.  It was a bit large for her, so she hung it in my closet.  It was way too tight for me.  Today, I had a job interview and was looking through the closet, last night, for something decent to wear.  All of the dresses that I have are too big now.  Happy to see the dress, I assumed it would fit by now, so I planned to wear it with a little shrug.  This morning, I put it on and it's too big!  OMGoodness...I need new clothes, but I need a job to buy them!  I have a sundress with a tie in the back that I wore with the shrug, but it was still way too big.  Hopefully, I'll get this job to finance my much needed wardrobe!

Congratulations Jan! I love Hawaiian dresses, especially vintage ones. I have some vintage Hawaiian caftans in my closet that I swim in now. Kinda sad, but I still like to look at the gorgeous splashy patterns. And being skinny helps take away some of the sadness of not being able to wear them anymore!

I wish you the best of luck in getting the job. I'm looking now too.

If you need clothes, I recommend eBay & your local thrift shops. eBay was such a lifesaver for me.

I do shop at thrift stores, but I miss going into stores and picking out items that I like and finding my size..if that makes sense.  At thrift stores, you just take what you can get.  Don't get me wrong, I LOVE a bargain...I just want to shop with my "new" self in a regular store!

Thank you for the well wishes!

You need to check out local thrift stores and Goodwill for great prices. My local shops sell most things for $4 or less. I find good brands like Coldwater Creek and Eddie Bauer for $4. I've quit shopping in regular stores even though I am at goal because I have two boys in college and money is tight. I can't justify spending regular prices on clothes when a little time spent looking through racks can yield bargains! Good luck on the job too!

I do shop thrift stores now and have gotten some great deals.  I just want to shop in stores other than the plus size stores!

It is somewhat bittersweet to have something you have 'zipped past' in the closet and never got to really wear and enjoy! :)

What sort of job are you seeking?

I've been an LPN for nearly 30 years.  The last job that I had (almost 3 years ago), I swore that I'd not work as an LPN again...lol  I was in school, bridging from LPN to RN, then had to stop due to some health issues.  Now, after RNY and feeling sooo much better about life, I'm ready to get back out there and work as nurse, AND get back into school.
With healthcare changes, also, we need
a decent and steady income.

I also have a winter dress that was hanging in my closet for years...very nice, expensive dress that I wore to a Christmas party one year.  It was my hope that I'd be able to wear it to a New Year's Eve party this year, but I have gone past it, too!  I'm sad that I won't be able to wear it, but thrilled that I am smaller than when I last wore it because I thought I was tiny back then!

I put on a tank top, and wore the dress to a volleyball game!  It's pretty, the arm holes are large, but with the top underneath, it was loose and comfy.  I am not sure I'd wear it outside of the house again, as I saw my reflection and it made me look SO much bigger than I am.
Thank you for the well wishes!

You could belt it or have it taken in. One thing I refuse to wear are loose clothes that visually add even 5 lbs, so I either have alterations done or belt them in to extend wear of some items.

Good luck on the job hunt--my SIL is finishing up her nursing degree and apparently RNs are in short supply...she is getting offers from all over!
