totally OT question - truancy?
I did call the school board, as well as children's services and the state education department. All three places told me they did not know who handled reports of truancy in my town.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
Call the courthouse. My students have to go to court all the time and are fined for truancy. There is an truancy officer assigned to our school. We take it seriously here.
But the loophole is all the parents have to do is withdraw them and say they are homeschooling to get around it. They don't have to "prove" it to anyone!!
Sadly we had an inservice meeting on the importance of education. After WW2, 77% of jobs here in the US did not require any kind of education. Now only 12% of jobs require no high school diploma. At least 2 years post-high school are needed to get a decent job now. The first 30 years after WW2, all income levels basically doubled their salary during that time. In the 30 years after that, the top 20% of Americans have had 40% increases in their incomes and the bottom 80% have had around 3% increase in their income. Basically the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. Sad, but true.
Those parents need to realize how much they are hurting their kids.
