I know many people become lactose intolerant early on. I assume that I was one of those people. Did this ever go Away? If/when did you try dairy again? Were you able to eat it again one day? Just wondering bc I love cottage cheese and I feel like this will help me get my protein in.

Since it's due to a lack of the enzyme lactase in the pouch, it probably will not go away.  However, you can buy Lactaid tablets, which contain the enzyme lactase, and take those before eating dairy products.

My dr never really diagnosed my being intolerant but I cut out dairy when I was having severe heartburn the nothing would make it let up. Is that even a symptom of lactose intollerance? I still have a little trouble but my dr also put me on protonix and reglan and I hardly have any trouble

No, I don't think heartburn is a symptoms of lactose intolerance.  Did you only have it when you ate dairy?

I've just found that I had eaten some type of dairy when it happened. Could be coincidence. Who knows. I also have had it a few times since I've quit the dairy so idk. I've had an ultra sound and an EGD and everything was normal. Dr said it might be from swelling since I'm still early out. I have no clue

Well, an ultrasound or EGD won't show if you are lactose intolerant.  You just diagnose that based on the symptoms.

Right.i just ruled that I am since none of the tests showed any ulcers or anything. I'm going to try a little cottage cheese and see how it goes

I have to use lactose-free milk in my shakes, but other dairy products are fine. I've heard that there's less lactose in things like cheese and yogurt. The reaction to milk didn't start until a couple if weeks out.

If you really think that Lactose is a problem there is a test you can take for it if your doctor orders it. Two of my three boys are lactose intolerant and both have done this test.  It isn't pleasant - they had to drink a full glass of lactose laden liquid on a fasting stomach, then wait for 30 minutes and then blow into a machine.  They had to do this repeatedly for several hours.  It sucked to be them that morning.  But now we know and we can stop playing guessing games with their diet.  My oldest son - who we thought was lactose intolerant based on trial and error turned out to not be intolerant at all but had a very bad Soy allergy instead.  As soy is hidden in tons of things we didn't realize that was the culprit.  (ie: milk in his cereal would bring on stomach cramping, massive diareah, etc.  Not from the milk lactose but from the hidden soy in his cereal or ice cream gave him the same symptoms but it is the soy they use as a thickener, etc. etc. etc.)

Hope it turns out not to be the lactose - that's a bummer but once you get the hang of finding all the available products that are lactose free, it's not too bad!  Good luck.

Not sure exactly when I became intolerant to most dairy, but I can't have milk, sour cream, cottage cheese, or fatty cheeses like cheddar. I can eat yogurt and mozzarella without issues, but the other dairy products give me real bad intestinal problems and usually end up running to the bathroom.
