QUICK QUESTION????????????

WHEN YOU HAVE A OUT OF POCKET COST FOR SURGERY DID YOUR SURGEON MAKE YOU PAY IT FIRST BEFORE THE SURGERY OR DID YOU GET BILLED FOR IT. MY OUT OF POCKET IS $1500 AND I WAS WONDERING SHOULD I WAIT TO BE BILLED AFTER MY INSURANCE PAYS FOR THEIR PORTION OR SHOULD I JUST GO AHEAD AND PAY MY SURGEON FIRST, WHAT DID YOU GUYS HAVE TO DO???????

I had to pay before surgery could be scheduled

I had to pay my co-pays for each pre-op visit with my surgeon at the time of the visit, but was billed by both my surgeon and the hospital for my portion of the bill after I had surgery.  In some cases, though, I think surgeons want to be paid up front.

Mine was the same as Kelly's except I had to pay $500 to my surgeon upfront. I was billed for the rest and made payment arrangements for those bills.

I had to pay the co pay before surgery could be scheduled. Around 1100 dollars which was the balance of my ytd out of pocket.

Just plan on paying ahead of time and then you have it out of the way.  I had to make co-pay prior to surgery.  As I always knew what it was going to be,  so there were no surprises when I paid it

For my RNY, I paid after surgery once they had billed my insurance.  When I had my knee replacement at the same hospital earlier this year, though, they insisted that I pay at least 1/3 of what my insurance estimated would be my cost before I had surgery.  So, it depends on your hospital and surgeon...

I think more and more doctors and hospitals are wanting to be paid up front for things because so many people end up not paying their medical bills, or taking a really long time to pay them.  Insisting on payment up front for non-emergency stuff is really the only way they can make sure they get paid.

Of course, if health care didn't cost so ridiculously much, more people might be able to pay their medical bills... but still, no body wants to work for free, including surgeons.
