Please someone with any info about Medicaid in VA
My understanding is that every insurance plan in the DMV area is required to offer SOME sort of WLS - may not be the one each person wants, and will likely have to jump thru the NIH-standard hoops (6 mo supervised diet, various clearances - psych, pulmonary, sleep study, cardiology & nutrition classes). It might be advisable to contact a caseworker with DSS for a clear description of eligibility, requirements, and covered surgeons/hospitals: http://www.dss.virginia.gov/benefit/medical_assistance/index .cgi
I know in MD it's state law that WLS is covered and only band or bypass are options for Medicaid patients.

Thank you so much. I have a BMI of 57 and have been working on healthier eating habits but have not noted them with a doctor so I guess I should get started with the 6 month diet since that seems to be the first step. Does anyone know if there are different types of Medicaid that may have a shorter time than the 6 months?
