5. I oftentimes wonder if I've become addicted to social media and the Internet. I can spend hours between searching things, FB, Pinterest and here.
I've made myself stay off completely for a weekend and it bothered me so yes I'm probably addicted.

No, I don't think I was. I defiantly enjoyed it though!
2. Were you addicted to alcohol before you had RNY?
No
3. Were you addicted to anything else before you had RNY? And if so, what?
Nope
4. If you were not addicted to alcohol before you had RNY, did you become addicted to alcohol after you had RNY?
No, but I do fear I will sometimes. Before, I'd have a couple of drinks if we went to a special dinner or something and usually something hard. Now, I can't have anything stronger than a half a glass of wine. I don't get that strong buzz I'd get before, and I sometimes miss that, and it makes me want to drink more. I don't, cause of the fear of becoming addicted, but I do crave it.
5. Did you develop any addictioins after RNY? And if so, to what?
Nothing really, but I do enjoy shopping a whole lot more!

4. If you were not addicted to alcohol before you had RNY, did you become addicted to alcohol after you had RNY? YES-MAYBE
5. Did you develop any addictioins after RNY? And if so, to what? NO
Did go through a long period where alcohol was a daily fixture. Also I smoked cigars before but now I smoke much more. I definitely feel its me acting out because I can npot get other needs met. In this case eating. I recently have plowed this into positive exercise, especially walking.
1. I was and tend to be an emotional/stress eater, so if that qualifies as addiction, then yes.
2. No, not even close, either.
3. Yes, excessive and irrational worrying.
4. No, My mother had an alcoholic father...I grew up listening to her stories what it was like--those stories have given me a lasting dislike for anything alcohol-related.
5. Yes, even though it is on the list of no-no's, I drink between 2-3 cups of full-strength black coffee per day and keeping doing it because it helps relieve my extreme coldness, helps deaden both head and real hunger, and I find comfort in the zero-calorie coffee taste. (I was not a big coffee-drinker before RNY)
I don't think stress or emotional eater automatically means it was an addiction, but it could be.

Great thread, Kelly!
I really don't think I was addicted to food before RNY. I made unhealthy food choices but a lot of the reason I did that is because I am an on the go kind of person so we eat out a lot. The reason I think that I wasn't addicted is because I haven't felt like I've lost my best friend (food). I remember reading a lot of posts like that prior to surgery-people describing how they feel lost without food. I wondered if that would be me. But I was very pleasantly surprised that the pre-op and post-op diet didn't bother me one bit! I feel like I can still enjoy food-but just in smaller quantities. But I'm not sad about eating smaller quantities-I am super happy about it! I just haven't felt deprived at all (much to my surprise). So that makes me think that food was not an addiction for me. I do think I would "look forward" to food sometimes but I still do that to some degree but don't we all? We all need to eat-lol!
Alcohol-not an addiction before or after. I drin****asionally (as I did prior to surgery). I don't have a "craving" for it. It is just nice to have a glass of wine every now and then to relax.
I wasn't addicted to anything before.
I guess if I have a "transfer addiction"-it would be coffee (not that it is an addiction). But I find myself having a cup before work and after work. When I have coffee--it is my special quiet time.
I really think that food represented the 3 times of day that I allowed to have myself a "break" (from working, taking care of the home, the kids, etc.) I now have my "coffee time."
