Protein Drinks
I have been sampling some protein drinks but they are so sweet, I think if I add more water I will lose some protein. Does anyone know of any protein drinks that are not real sweet, maybe I can go to the store to buy it. I bought the samples at The Vitamin Shop. I can't tolerate real sweet drinks but I want to find some I can drink before I have the surgery. Thanks
you won't lose protein by adding more water, you'll just have more to drink. The one I use calls for 8 oz on the directions, I need to mix it with 12 oz to have it to my taste. By all means play around with the amount of water you use as well as different brands! Also please note that for many of us our tastes change after surgery and we don't like or can't tolerate what we had pre op. So be prepared to look again and don't throw any out. What didn't work now might work post op.
If you add water, you don't lose protein. You just have a bigger drink.

I used to mix flavored with unflavored 50:50 and use that. I also used decaff coffee to mix with some proteins.
About Time Whey brand of proteins (on line) are not very sweet IMO.

Katie, adding protein powder to ho****er does not necessarily make it clump up if you follow directions. Never use water above 140 degrees as all proteins coagulate at that temperature (think of an egg white in a fry pan). Put the protein in a cup, add a couple of spoonfuls of the water and stir to make a slurry, then add the rest of the water in stir. Voila! No lumps!
Never try to put the powder on the top of the cup of water and stir--guarantee you will get lumps and clumps.
I always mix my drinks with about 3 oz of room temp water first. Once that's mixed well I add ice and water and shake again. I drink mine strong to get it over with so probably 8-10oz of water. Mine are always really sweet. I don't like tea, but maybe mixing with tea would be a way to cut the sweetness?

Have you added a spoonful of PB2 to a peanut butter shake? Or tried the coffee flavor from Isopure? Not sweet at all!

I think adding instant decaf coffee to a chocolate or vanilla shake really cuts the sweetness.
