Dumping

I am almost two weeks out.

Last night I had my first time of 'dumping' I have heard many stories about this and it can consist of many things. There was no throwing up or diarrhea.

It was straight out pain in my intestines. I seriously wanted to die.( and that is not even exaggerating ) I have had 6 surgeries, gave birth to 2 children, and I NEVER in my life felt pain like that. It woke me up from a dead sleep. It lasted and on and off for about an hour. I never, ever want to feel that again.

Today I am basically afraid to eat anything at all. It is 2pm and all I have had is water. I know I need my protein. But I am seriously afraid to touch anything else. But that is my update... sorry it is a downer.

What did you eat before you felt sick?

The last thing I ate that night, which was about 2 hours before hand was tuna (all white meat tuna) with a bit of salt and pepper, touch of low fat mayo to make it less dry. I am at the puree stage so I had a bit of that. I did not believe I over ate. It was just strange that it took so many hours for it to hit like that.

Sounds like intestinal distress.   You will not dump from tuna and not 2 hours later!

I don't even know what that means.

It means that tuna, which is a protein, and a amall amount of mayo, which is a fat, won't cause dumping (only carbs/sugar cause dumping), and that dumping would have happened much sooner than 2 hours after eating.

You didn't mention any heart racing, shakiness, dizziness, sweating/flushing, which are the hallmarks of dumping, so probably the food simply did not agree with you.  Not every digestive upset is dumping.

Now, that makes sense to me. I did get dizzy but I think that was from pain. I called my Dr's office. I was told that my body doesn't seem ready for pureed food. That once it got to my intestines it gave me hell. They are putting me back on liquid only. Because I tried yogurt before I called and it just sits in my esophagus, I actually had to go in the bathroom and bend over the toilet, it just flowed out like an over full glass when all I had was 1 and half bites.. so if it is no****er or really runny shake it won't go down.

I don't think that was dumping.  You wouldn't dump on tuna with low fat mayo.  There would have been very little sugar in that.  Plus, dumping rarely happens that long after you eat.  Did you puree the tuna?  Did you maybe not chew well enough?

Yes I did puree it. So I know it is not from lack of chewing.
If this was not dumping, should I contact my Surgeons office?

Well, if you're not in pain now, you probably don't need to call your surgeon.  But I don't want to tell you not to call.  If you are concerned, you should probably call.  What I would do, I think, is eat something light, like yogurt, and see how that goes.  If you have severe pain again after eating, I'd call.
