Losing too fast?
Just had an appointment with my NUT - she brought up the concern that I may be losing too fast. 67 pounds since surgery a little over 4 months ago - so kind of fast but not like "Holy crap take her to the ER"-fast. What a crazy world it is... who would have expected THAT to be a problem?
She gently suggested I work on adding in more carbs. It was actually funny, she was obviously expecting me to freak out or panic or something -"Oh, for the love of God, NOT CARBS!!! Anything but that!" :)
I am not anti-carbs, but I don't really tolerate them all that well. WW pasta does OK, and WW toast - but just about everything else leaves me feeling over full and bloated if not nauseous. She suggested potatoes - I almost laughed, I haven't eaten a baked potato in like 15 years!!! I am going to add in granola, my Greek yogurt could use a little crunch... but other than than I am at a loss. I am reluctant to add in crackers... just because in my past life I could down a box of crackers in a heartbeat and I suspect they are a "trigger food" for me. I have eliminated all refined carbs... but other than that I am open to new things - any suggestions?
I lost 60 pounds the first two months after surgery. Trust me, the weight loss will slow down on it's own. I now lose about 1 lb every 3 weeks.
With carbs, I was eating mashed potatoes in the early days, and that is when I hit my stalls, plus, I always wanted them. I had to cut them out completely for now.
I agree with the other posters. I don't think that is crazy fast. If you are getting a decent amount of calories in (at least 600-800 at 4 months), I wouldn't mess with it. A lot of people have panicked because they are loosing weight too fast, start adding in carbs, etc. and then can't stop gaining. It will slow down on it's own. If you are feeling good, I would suggest adding some healthy carbs (vegetables) and maybe a little more protein with nuts or nut butters - those are higher in calories, but still protein forward. It's going to be hard enough to avoid carbs a year from now, when they go down just fine. . . I don't think I would go down that road so soon.
If you want to add - I may suggest Quinoa - grain, some extra fruits, nuts.. I would suggest staying away most starchy carbs, but fruits - may be an option.. berries.. yummm

I had lost about that much at that point too and started about the same weight as well. I lost down to 116 which made me an underweight bmi. I have added a protein drink back in per day and eat some protein about every three hours and my weight loss has finally stopped. I also had to cut my exercise to 30 minutes a day because I was still losing 3 to 4 pounds a week. I didn't change anything though until I was officially underweight. I could never imagine having this issue a year ago!
I'd say as long as you feel good and your labs are fine - what is the big deal? My surgery was a day after yours and I am down 64 lbs from a surgery weight of 236 Lbs. I saw my Nut last week and she just said keep up the good work.... But if you are going to try to mix things up a bit I'd add in beans and lentils and quinoa instead of potatoes and other grains. Just MHO. Nuts and fruits are good too.
I think you are doing great and it's when you get to the low end of the BMI chart (or when your labs are off) that's when it's time to be concerned. Enjoy the slide down. It's so much fun!!!
