A1c high 8.7

Well after I talked to the Surgeons office I spoke to my regular Doctor and found out my A1C came back higher because I had some lapses in insulin due to money this month.  Now I have to kick carbs completely out between now and Jan. 14 when I see the Surgeon.  I will have to have my A1C below 8 for them to safely do surgery.  I will get this done!  You guys please say a prayer for me.  Merry Christmas

Does your insurance not cover insulin?

HW333--SW 289--GW of 160 5' 11" woman.  I only know the way I know & when you ask for input/advice, you'll get the way I've been successful through my surgeon & nutritionist. Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

Yes, my insurance does cover insulin I just didn't have the money for the co-pays.  I am type 2 diabetic.  I have it all now and will do whatever needed to keep my shots current.  Am on a very strict low carb diet now and using less insulin to boot and checking sugars.

There is a new medicine called Invokana.  Ask your doctor for a prescription.  It is a very expensive medicine but, there is a coupon for a free month supply.

This medicine is lowering sugars dramatically.  This might be just what you need to get the A1C down quickly.  I am praying you get it down and that surgery resolves your diabetes.

I wish you all the best.  My A1C was as high as 12.2 two years ago.  Since my RNY it's 5.7.  No diabetes meds for me anymore, no insulin, nothing!  My doctor is so happy and I still can't believe it.
