Post ops past 1 year and malabsorption

The is no way to know for sure in terms of calories, but most people can see from the rainbow oil slick in the toilet that they still malabsorb some fat.  I only see it if I eat a meal that is significantly much higher in fat than my usual intake.  Some people know that the malabsorption so gone when they start to see weight creep when their food intake and activity levels have been consistent.  For some that is only about 18 months out, for some it is 3 years out.  Of course, they also have to be SURE that they haven't let their portion sizes increase, which is VERY easy to do once you are over a year out.

Many people never notice the gradual loss of the malabsorption.

My weight loss slowed to a crawl at 12 months out and continued that way until I hit goal at 20 months out even though what I was eating at 12 months out was not any different than at 6 months out. I went back to food tracking for a few weeks to be sure.  My surgeon said it was possible that I was losing the malabsorption  faster than the average bear (do people in their 20s and 30s know where that comes from?!?), but also reminded me that, long term. I isnt about the malabsorption, it is about healthy food choices.  By the time I was about 2.5 years out, I noticed that a slight increase in what I was eating could cause weight creep of a couple of pounds, so I dropped my food intake just a bit to give me more freedom in food choices.
