had to go to the emergency last week

I assume if it ripped they'd have to do surgery to repair it.  Not only could there be a lot of bleeding, but if you ate or drank anything, it would spill out into the abdominal cavity, which can lead to severe infection.  In the several years I've been on this forum, though, I've seen many, many posts about having strictures dilating and never one about the dilation causing a rip.  I assume that is an extremely rare complication.

Kelly's exactly right. If it rips while they're dilating, that's emergency surgery right there, do not pass Go, do not collect 200 dollars. That's why they do it in increments instead of all at once. While strictures are not uncommon, complications such as rips during dilation *are* rare. Surgeons are knowledgeable about how much they can stretch the stoma and not cause another problem.

If you're still having problems after the first dilation, back off your foods to a previous stage (not sure what stage you're at now****il you get the next dilation.

I did look at the pics, they look just like mine.  Not being a doctor I can't tell you exactly what they show, but the stoma looks like mine did in my pictures, which I assume means it's small.  My surgeon said he couldn't even get the camera through mine, it was smaller than the tip of a pinky finger. You should do fine after the next dilation, and if not, one or two more will probably work well and get you back on track!

Your stoma may be a little sensitive after the EDG;  pamper yourself with warm soups, etc., for a few days to allow the stoma to heal.

Oh bless you! I hope you are feeling better today and continue to heal well! Good for you for taking action before things got worse!

For me, that would be a question for my surgeon, but I sure hope you can!
