I'm glad you find the post valuable, Spots N Dots!  Your new slow cooker recipe sounds good!  I bought a slow cooker and so far I made turkey chili for the superbowl and that's it lol.  I need to buy a cookbook.  I know there are low carb slow cooker books out there.  Let us know how the pepperoni/grilled chicken came out.  What is the base?  Jus****er or some sort of cream of chicken soup?

I'm about 8 weeks out. Today was one of my quarterly dental cleanings (I have to go quarterly due to periodontal issues) and my dentist was amazed at how much better my teeth were on this visit. I didn't need much cleaning at all, just a bit of scraping as I can't stand the ultrasonic jet cleaner. I was in and out in 40 minutes, as opposed to the hour it usually takes. I guess dumping all those white carbs has other benefits!

B: Protein shake made with skim milk

L: Whole Foods salad bar salad: pulled chicken with about a tbsp each of black beans and shredded red cabbage, four grape tomatoes and a sprinkle each of parmesan and pepitas on top with 1 tbsp asiago peppercorn dressing...I ate half of the whole thing, will eat the other half tomorrow.

D: Taco beef with shredded cheese on lettuce "taco shells"

V: On track, need to go pick up the iron my PCP prescribed

E: half an hour brisk treadmill

W: So far about 30 ounces, I need to step it up a bit today.

Pam!  That's so awesome!  I go to the dentist later this month and I wonder if they will see a difference in my teeth with my MUCH healthier eating habits now.  That's an NSV I never thought about!  Mmm the Whole Foods salad bar sounds awesome!

Annie, so many people start their day with turkey bacon, and I don't blame you!  It really is the perfect first bite!  Is it possible that I transferred my carb love to salt love?  LOL

1. Is it ok to take Seno (a natural laxative) every few days to "keep it moving" - doc says yes, and in fact I could take it everyday if I needed to

*****I know nothing about the brand you posted, but I take Miralax daily and find it makes a HUGE difference!

2. What is a good snack for the afternoon before going to the gym - doc and NUT say a hard-boiled egg, a protein shake, or a cheese stick.  NUT wants me to add in fruits but I am not ready for that (mentally) since I am keeping my carbs below 20 g per day.

******Right there with you on the fruit, I have had exactly three ounces of fruit since my surgery last May, 1 ounce three times and the 1 ounce portions were more than a week apart. Blackberries. Yummy...but not anything I'm having with regularity until these last pounds are gone and even then...more of a once in a while thing. Fruit is a trigger for me!  I try to eat an hour or so before a run and then I have at least 10 g of protein immediately after my cool down. Depending on timing, I might have 30g after my cool down. If it is a pre-workout/run shake, it has to be a light one. Like Lemonade, Wild Grape or Twisted Cherry. Let's just say that I know just how gross vomited chocolate shake is! No way on earth could I eat a boiled egg pre-workout. I still struggle with them, though I can do a poached egg. But again, would not want it pre-workout.

3. I am sleeping very poorly - wake up early and seem to think about the day, what to pack for lunch, etc and doc doesn't think this is surgery related this far out.

****I found a few common truths for my husband and myself. One, we need a LOT less sleep than our obese selves did. Even when I was 25 lbs down I could drop an hour of 'sleep' from my night and be fine the next day. I cannot tell you how many times I have had only 5 hours of sleep for several nights in a row and been 100% fine. That has not been the case for several decades prior to this! I would have been D R A G G I N G at 333 lbs and limited sleep. So I started experimenting with going to bed later (I can't really get up any earlier as I already wake before 5 most days for work anyway) and found so long as my head hits the pillow by 11:30, even a 4:45 wake up call isn't a negative thing. I am spending more time reading, scrapbooking and just enjoying time with my husband in the evening than I ever did before. I cannot work out after say 6p or I am up ALL NIGHT LONG. It really needs to be earlier in the day or I am overly wired and cannot sleep. Some find it calms them and helps them sleep. So that is something you'll want to listen to your body on and figure out for yourself.

4. I eat a lot of sashimi (raw tuna - no rice) - NUT says to be careful since our stomachs make less acid so we are at a higher risk for foodborne illness, but sushi is ok.

****I have started to order the ahi appetizer for dinner a good bit when we go out and have moved from rare to medium rare for just that reason. Golly gee do I love ahi!!!

5. My TOM is off schedule and last month was quite a beast - doc says this is totally normal

******Sadly, yes! The first 4 or 5 months it was like my uterus had gone insane. I was starting to call her Sybil! I blamed it on the hormone dump, my age, the heparin and total change my body was going through. But was VERY glad when it went back to 'normal' though two things I used to HATE are now super beneficial. One, the progesterone surge always brought diarrhea with it and now it just makes me far more regular that week. YAY! Second, I gain a full 5 lbs that week and then the next week I have a great 'loss' that yes...I know is water weight, but when I go down 7 lbs and not 2, it is somehow mentally a bigger win. :) The net number is not impacted. It is a mental thing for me. Sort of like setting my alarm clock ahead 10 minutes and snoozing back in the day when waking up was tough. :)

I told my NUT I generally eat about 700 calories per day and she wants me to have MORE.  I have to say, I am not going to listen to her.  From the successful vets I have seen on here, 700 calories at 8 weeks is fine, and possibly on the high side.

*****Plans are SO different on this topic! I was not at that many until nearly as many months out. Many days (I'll be 9 months tomorrow) I am barely getting 700 calories in even now. My thought is so long as you are being protein focused, that is fine, but I know for me, I was just barely doing 350 at 2 months out.

Anyway, on to my menu:

B: 3 egg bites (egg beaters, cooked crumbled bacon, goat cheese, shallots) 169 calories, 3 g carbs, 18 g protein

L: 2 oz chicken salad made from chicken breast I got Sat at a restaurant (third meal from this breast lol) prepared with crushed red pepper flakes and light mayo, and I eat it with two aged parmesan cheese crisps (Yay crunch!) for 155 calories, 15 g of protein, 3 more g of carbs

D: I have a work dinner tonight so I think a bite of burrata (mozzarella) salad and maybe 3 oz of Amish chicken.  This is about 183 calories, 4 more g of carbs, and 20 g of protein

S: I may have to do a premier protein shake since without it, my protein is only 54 g.

That means the day will be 666 calories, 84 g of protein, 28 g of fat, 14 g of carbs

E: None planned :(

V: I am almost out of calcium, have new chews coming Friday (thank god for amazon prime)

W: I always have 70+ ounces.  I have been loving crystal light lately.

****Have you tried getting more liquid in? I know for me, 100 oz is my non-running minimum and on running days it is more like 125 oz. I do feel like a fish sometimes, but if I drink less I find that I have more BM issues and do not lose as much.  I will say though--your loss is AWESOME for two months so you are clearly working your plan and HOORAY for that!

What's on your menu???

As it is my birthday I have had two lattes today, which is not my norm, but they have 12 calories each and that topped out my 25 calorie a day limit on beverages (not incuding protein shakes of course) so the rest of the day is all water or tea or black coffee.  I had one latte with my husband and the other with a friend and it was very nice to just sit in and visit over a latte.  I had a skinny Monte Cristo which is one piece of muenster cheese in a HOT skillet with a piece of thinly sliced turkey breast on it and then rolled up with a spatula and a drizzle of sugar free maple syrup (1 tsp) on it and then sliced and eaten. No jam, no bread, no egg and man alive...is it ever good! The cheese gets a nice crispy crust on the edge and makes such a lovely 'blanket' for the turkey. I roast a humanely raised/processed organic turkey and then use the electric knife to make thin full cuts off the breast and get the deli thinness without the deli *yuck* with the sodium and such. Plus, the processing of commercial turkeys makes me sad. :(

Dinner tonight is going to be 1/4 cup of grilled pork chop and 1/2 ounce of shredded gouda cheese with a few marinated garlic cloves. It will fill a 1/3 cup measure cup, I just cannot do 1/2 cup with pork or cheese. It would push my limit and I'd be sorry the rest of the night. I will have an Isopure Black Tea tonight before bed with my Miralax.
