What's on the menu today, RNY-ers?
I am all about built in portion control! Two life-savers for me have been a kitchen scale - best $25 I have ever spent. I cannot in any way shape or form guess what 2 or 3 oz of meat looks like http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001N07KUE/ref=oh_details_o 03_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Also, I use small plates for my meals and bring my lunch to work in super small containers. Putting 2 oz of food in a "normal" size tupperware is pretty depressing to the mind that is used to a heaping serving! Like, these hold 2.5 oz so you could fill it to the BRIM! It's all mental :) http://www.amazon.com/EasyLunchboxes-Mini-Dippers-Small-Cont ainers-Leak-Resistant/dp/B00958N4GU/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden &ie=UTF8&qid=1392662886&sr=1-2&keywords=small+tupperware+con tainers
I also don't feel full. I have said many times on here, I wish to God I was one of those people who is just STUFFED from 3 tbsp of food, but sadly that's not the case. So I weigh everything. Some people use measuring cups but 1/4 cup of chicken weighs a lot more than 1/4 cup of grated parmesan cheese, for example. So I go by ounces. Just a personal preference. It is WEIRD to eat so little. One day I worked 9 hours, went to Zumba and sweat for an hour, and got home and felt "ravenous". I was probably just hungry. Whereas previously I swear I could have eaten five pieces of pizza, I cooked up one chicken sausage and couldn't fini****! It's tough to wrap your head around it, but once the lbs start dropping off, you get behind the concept really quickly :)
Haven't posted since Valentines day, so hope everyone had a good one. My husband came home with a complete surprise, he said he went to Walmart on the way home and picked something up, and he pulls out a Michael Kors purse and matching wallet. It was AWESOMEEEE. Walmart...right. :)
Anyway
Ran 5 miles this morning p, 10k program Week 11
Breakfast: 2 Slices Turkey Bacon before run, Strawberry Peanut Butter Protein Shake after, while at the dog park
Snack: probably rice cakes (the mini ones)
Lunch: out, probably chipotle steak tacos
Snack: pickles and some deli meat
Dinner: Spaghetti Squash and Turkey Meatballs
were heading to San Antonio this weekend so I'm trying to clean out the fridge so we don't leave a bunch of stuff to expire!
What a sweet hubby, Annie! That's awesome :) And the fact that you woke up and ran 5 miles is ALSO awesome. Seeing all you runners on here, I wonder if I will ever be a runner! You are back on track re: snacks I see - awesome menu. Have the pickles helped? The crunch is very satisfying to me. I also love Chipotle. One burrito bowl lasts me 4 meals and I still have some to throw away (without rice and beans even!). San Antonio should be warm, hopefully? I also hate to throw away food! We will get to see you have all sorts of weird combinations this week as you go through the fridge lol.
I think San Antonio should be in the 60s, here in El Paso it was 80 this weekend. It was so nice, but that's why I ran early this morning because I get really hot while I'm running! The pickles and rice cakes and popcorn have helped tremendously! I'm sure I'll still have some chips and salsa every once in awhile, but I also believe in not depriving myself of everything I enjoy. Everything in moderation. I think anyone can be a runner if they want, I never EVER thought I'd be able to run a mile much less 5!!! I think running gives me such an exhilarating feeling, I feel so great afterwards. I started with the 5k program and then moved on to the 10k! You can do it!
Thanks for the vote of confidence, Annie! One day perhaps :) Would be tough to run a mile at 299 lbs but I am on my way! Holy crap, 80?! I am so envious! And yes, I didn't mean you can't eat chips and salsa (yum) - I just know you were saying your meals have been so healthy and your snacking was less so. Your menu looks delicious.
My husband and I LOVE spaghetti squash!! He requests it almost every week (any he doesn't NEED to eat it, he could have pasta) I cut it in half and bake it cut side down for 45 minutes with some olive oil and salt and pepper. We've made carbonara with it too, and I'm going to try a pesto sauce in it soon!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!
That is such an exciting accomplishment. There is nothing like hitting those miles stones that we have set in our minds. I know when I saw a 1 in front of my number I cried for 1/2 an hour and probably weighed every time I walked by the scale for a week to make sure it was right.
Yesterday I went to Chicago with my little sister and was excited to have had a pretty successful day food wise with being on the road or eating in a restaurant all day. Highly recommend the Skinnylious Menu at Cheesecake factory as long as you preplan because some of those "light" items aren't that light.
