To soon for BBQ

Well I finally did it!  I couldn't stand it anymore.  I got some BBQ pork yesterday and took just a few bites and chewed it up real good and it didn't stay down.  At four weeks out, yes I know I shouldn't have eaten it! I learned my lesson, I promise.  It's the first time I have gotten sick.  Some things I can eat without a problem and others let me know within a couple of bites that it is a mistake.  Tuna was one of those and eggs too.  I can eat chicken salad though.  My weight loss is at a crawl right now, but all is well, I have lost a good bit over the last month so I can't complain.  The Doctor should release me Tuesday to return to work.  If so, I will go back to work Wednesday.  I am going to take over the early shift so I can get off in the afternoon so I can exercise.  It will be a pain getting up in the middle of the night but I will adjust.  Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Steve. I have a hard time with pork even still. One day it's fine the next time it makes me sick, I can't eat BBQ pulled pork but could eat BBQ ribs (also pork) rather early out. Make sure you are using a lower sugar BBQ sauce I dump off some of the brands and not off of others. It's really a learning curve. My rules for the first three months was meat, cheese, and eggs only so yes, I too tried it after the soft food phase when we were camping. You'll figure it all out and remember, just when you do, it will change again! lol Keep up the good work!

Sometimes I can eat BBQ and sometimes not. It all depends on the sauce. I don't eat it out because the sugar in the sauce kills me. I can usually do a mustard based sauce though!

I'm 9+ months out and could not handle BBQ. Plus you have to be VERY careful about the amount of sugar in the sauce. I find in NC it is pretty awful, like candy levels of sugar, in most of the BBQ unless it is that awful vinegar based type. Blech. I say that jokingly, you likely know that there are two camps of BBQ here. ;)  And tuna salad is something I was able to eat two or three times and now it turns my stomach to even see it, but oddly, I handle ahi just fine!

No matter when you work you can exercise. I have a few people in my support group that work 2nd or 3rd shift at the hospital and they just workout on a different schedule than the rest of the 9 to 5 world.

I will admit, I never thought you'd get a doctor to write you out this long, hope you enjoyed your time at home. I would have gone berserk being out of work that long.

Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

Nothing like projectile vomiting to help you learn a lesson!  BTDT a couple of times on chicken that was too dry.

At almost six years BBQ is still hit or miss.  Too greasy is definitely a "no go".  You can always ask for the sauce on the side too.

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

I think it is the tomato in the sauce that gets to me.  I slow roasted a pork roast tonight for the first time post op.  I made the sauce with a little brown sugar, course ground mustard, lemon juice, onion and garlic powder, vinegar, and olive oil.  I larded it with thyme sprigs and it was delicious but I ate a very small amount and a tiny bit of sweet potato, baked w/no sugar sauce.

I do the pork in the slow cooker or pressure cooker with no sauce of any kind until it falls apart.  Then I make my own BBQ sauce.  I boil a cup of tomato juice until it is down to about half the volume and thick.  Then I mix in a small amount of vinegar, mustard, some liquid smoke, Splenda, and hot sauce to taste.

Pull the pork and put your portion into your homemade sauce.  I started doing this back in the 1970's with Weigh****chers.  If you are cooking for others you can just make more sauce for them or let them eat theirs in the liquid sugar stuff from the store.
