My kids are used to making me a cake, I don't know what I can have. Do they make sugar free cakes ?they looked a Walmart and did not find any. I'm 8 weeks out.

They are used to the 'old' you too !

Now you are the healthier version.......Start a new tradition !

How about a birthday celebration with an activity for the whole family ? hiking ? snowball fight ? Create memories that last longer than cake !

Sugar free cakes still have carbs, fat and calories ! Maybe jello with tiny bit of whip cream !

At 2 months out I was still limited on food choices and quantity.

I know our programs are the same and I sure didn't see ANY type of cake on the menu !

I agree - start a new tradition this year.  Instead of them working together to make you a cake - go do something together!  Or if they are at all crafty have them make you a scrapbook to journal your new journey to a healthy you.  Be creative - stay away from food for celebrating.  Food is for nutrition - Fun is for celebrating!

I am no longer defined, by the wreckage behind!

I just celebrated my birthday, and we did have cake for the family, but I made myself a cup of ff hot cocoa and was completely satisfied. I agree with others, try to find another way to celebrate that doesn't involve cake or other pre surgery foods that could trigger a setback. BTW - Happy Happy Birthday, to you!!!!

Make a new tradition!

We got a LOT of flack last year (well, mostly my husband) for not having a cake at birthdays and this year we sort of 'put our foot down' and said that all manner of people do not have cake for their birthdays, for them to quit acting like we were felons for refusing cake and it sparked an idea.

So now we donate a lovely bakery cake on birthdays in the name of the person being celebrated, to the local soup kitchen. The birthday person(s) pick out the cake. The baker makes a full sheet cake and it serves a LOT of people!  We ask that they please ask everyone coming in on the 1st if their birthday is that month and offer a slice to whomever has their birthday that month. It's been a hit according to the soup kitchen manager.  There are only three months in my family that my husband and I or one of our children, parent or sibling doesn't have a birthday and we've all decided that we'll do cakes in those months. My niece is VERY excited to pick 'her' cake to donate later this year and the giving to others is tremendously enjoyable.  We do something NON food related for our own celebration.

Try having them make a cake for someone in need...have that fun activity be what you do together! :)

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

You can always have them make a sugar-free pudding pie.

My birthday was yesterday I made a cake and took it to the homeless shelter and explained I can't eat cake but I wanted someone to enjoy it for me. They were thrilled to have a special treat they don't get very often!

Time to make a new tradition. When you are further out if you don't dump you may be able to have a small slice but not this early I wouldn't! Just explain to the kids they don't want you to risk being sick on your birthday. :D

I eat cake on my birthday. Eating a piece of cake on my birthday each year did not make me fat. I enjoy special occasions with my family. I don't go crazy, but if I eat things I do not normally eat 10-15 days a year, I know I will be OK. If they want to make you a cake, let them. Let them sing their little hearts out. Smile and blow out the candles. You do not have to eat it. Or you can eat a few bites and be done.

Pillsbury does make a sugar-free cake mix. I like it, but my boyfriend hates it. Last year I made it for his birthday. He ate it and did not complain. This year I made him a regular cake. He said, "Thank goodness you did not make a sugar-free cake this year. It was terrible!!" lol
