Yogurt - Ew
Okay, I am scheduled for surgery on Monday. I went to the store yesterday and tried to find yogurt and got overwhelmed.
First, I hate yogurt. BUT I'm willing to force myself to eat it and I am willing to be creative with ideas to get it down.
Second, I got very overwhelmed with all the "bad" yogurt choices at the store. Geesh! If it had enough protein, then it had too much sugar or it had fruit chunks in it.
So I need your help. Can you give me suggestions on what yogurt to eat and how to make it as palatable as possible?
Also, any ideas on alternatives if I just can't do the yogurt?
Also, soup ideas. The food list from my surgeon said "Low Fat Cream Soups" Isn't that somewhat of a contradiction in terms? Lol.
I hear ya on the yogurt types!
I have been doing Dannon Light and Fit Greek yogurt. It has more carbs than I would like, but the calories are usually 80 calories. I like the banana cream pie, the lime, and I just bought the coconut vanilla.
Find the soup aisle and look for the Campbell's 98% fat-free cream of chicken soup or some of the Healthy Choice soups. Don't buy a ton - I didn't love them post-op. I actually prefer salty broth soups so I bought chicken bouillon and then added Isopure Zero Carb unflavored protein powder.
Good luck!
Yoplait light has less sugar (as far as I know) and a wide variety of flavors. It is what my Dr. recommends. Can you have cottage cheese? Tomato and chicken noodle broth only. I was not allowed cream of soups because it had chunks in it.

To believe that you must hide all the parts of you that are broken, out of fear that someone else is incapable of loving what is less than perfect, is to believe that sunlight is incapable of entering a broken window and illuminating a dark room.”― Marc Hack

Cottage cheese is on the list but it is another food that I am going to have to force myself to eat. Which I'm willing to do.
The list the surgeon gave me just says "Low Fat Cream Soups". I know from reading the forums that I should strain any soup to avoid any chunks, but my surgeon didn't say anything about chunks. I'm just going to do that myself so I don't have problems. I thought about tomato soup but wondered if it would be too acidic for my stomach during the healing phase.
I didn't used to like yogurt either, but now I like it quite a lot, especially the greek yogurt which has more protein. I like the Danon light and fit greek yogurt quite a bit. Sometimes I'll get the Fage greek yogurt and mix in some sugar-free Torani syrup for flavor. I agree that it can be tough to find a yogurt that you like that has a good balance of protein and sugar. I try and go for ones that have more grams of protein than sugar, even though I don't dump. For post-op, I was advised to strain the cream soups as well--that got really dull after a while! I agree that the tomato soup should be avoided for a while--you might want to check with your doc for a guideline on that.
Good luck! :D

I just wanted to let you know that many people find their tastes change post-op. Before surgery, I also hated yogurt and cottage cheese, now I love both of those- crossing my fingers that you will have a similar experience!

I thought about that and am hoping the same thing. The texture is my problem with cottage cheese so I'm hoping if I just muscle through it that I will get past that and be okay with it. The smell of yogurt is one of the major turn offs for me on yogurt so again I'm hoping to just push past it and eat it anyway.
I have a lot of resolve in this and am willing to do what I have to do and eat what I have to eat to be successful. I am also a big believer that we have control over our taste buds and can train them to like whatever we are determined to eat. This experience may prove me wrong on that BUT for now that is my story and I'm sticking to it. Lol.
You can always blend the cottage cheese!
