Losing my hair

My hair is falling out by handfuls every time I even touch it.  I normally have really beautiful thick naturally curly red hair, but now I have barely any left.  I have increased my protien to 130 grams a day hoping the extra protien will help.  I have heard that others have been through this and I know that at some point this too will pass, but I was wondering how long it took before other people had their hair grow back or if anyone had any suggestions on what I could do.

I could really use some positive support right now.  As much as I know losing my hair isn't the end of the world it sure feels like it right now......

My understanding is that the hair loss is from Telogen Effluvium and that there's nothing we can do to prevent it.  It will pass and your hair will come back!

I'm so sorry to hear f your hair loss. I think mine was between months 3-6. I didn't lose a lot but I it was more than normal and when I brushed it it would fill the brush. After month 6 it just stopped coming out and went back to normal. Now my hair looks the same as pre surgery. I do take a biotin pill every day. Costco also sells a hair, skin and nails vitamin that I take sometimes too. These are pretty big pills and you're supposed to take a lot a day, but I don't follow their dosage recommendations. I know this is a hard time for us girls, but try to focus on your weigh loss success and how good you feel about that and before you know it your hair will be back to normal. I actually cut my hair during my loss and it looked a lot better. Now I'm letting it grow out a little, only chin length and it feels just like pre surgery again. Best of luck to you!

I have thick hair as well and just went through my hair loss phase. It was disturbing seeing the Chewbacca pelt in the shower! I knew it was coming and did my best to stay calm and eventually it stopped. This too shall pass. :D

I lost lots of hair too about that timeframe in my journey. I am here to tell you that it does grow back,in fact my came back somewhat curly when it was straight as a board before. Just take a deep breath and focus on the end goal. Hair grows back and the new healthy you is so worth thin hair for a while.

Hang in there, it will stop. It is very unsettling while it is happening, but when it is all over, it is done.

Losing tons and tons right now. Almost 5months out and it is crazy but I started with a lot. I had it with both of my children too, just hang on and cut it up some if it makes you feel better to see less hair!

I'm right there with you. I cry every time I wash my hair. It is so bad. In the very front I look like a cancer patient so I am at least thankful it's not falling due to chemo. Mine started falling at 2 1/2 months and I am 5 1/2 months now. It is not slowing down yet but I know it just has to run it's course.

I am trying to find a place to buy a wig. My hubby even agrees I should buy a wig if it will make me feel better. I have long black wavy hair so I think that makes it more noticeable.

I'm taking biotin, making sure I get my water and protein in. You are not alone. Hang in there.

Imagine your body being a farm and what you eat is fuel.  This year the farm has to run without all of the fuel that it is used to having.  So the farmer has to allocate the resources to where they are needed the most.

It considers your bones, brain, heart and other organs more important than hair and nails.  When it feels that the vital organs are being adequately nourished, then it can spare some nutrients for fancier crops like your hair and nails to start growing again.

Most of the time hair regrowth is going again by nine months.  But hair only grows at about 1/2 inch a month, so it will take about a year to get six inches of new healthy hair.   A short cut is a lot quicker to look full again.

Taking your vitamins and consuming a lot of protein probably helps things to go a bit faster.

Toppik is something you can get at the beauty supply or on Amazon to fill in bare spots and make your hair look better.  It is a powder fiber that clings to hair like a magnet and makes it look fuller and thicker.  You do have to practice to learn to use it but it could make a big difference during the losing stage.
