RH Episode, What to eat ?

my go to is also peanut butter - though I hate it, it works best.  i  just grab a spoonful from the jar.  IF i can get a cracker down with it i will, but adding too many simple carbs will just perpetuate the cycle.

There have been times when it's dropped so low so fast that I've used glucose tablets because I was driving or in a store.   They work in the short term but can cause dumping or cycling RH if I rely on them too much or too often.

good luck to you.  RH is misery and i completely sympathize with anyone else who has it.

I have not had it yet, I'm 10 months out but I guess everyone gets it.  I just don't understand why this happens, I never had diabetes and though after surgery I did not have to worry but now I worry a lot about getting hypoglycemia.

Not everyone gets it. I'm 8 1/2 years post-op and I never have. I do, however, eat 6 "meals" per day focused on protein, so that helps with prevention. I also don't eat any refined sugar and keep my carbs low. RH is not inevitable.

how many carbs should we have per meal ? what types of food do you eat for your 6 meals?

During my losing phase I generally kept my carbs between 30-35g per DAY (not meal). So far out and in long-term maintenance my carbs are higher (between 40-65g per DAY - sometimes a little higher, sometimes lower). I don't eat a lot of bread, pasta, rice, etc (white, simple carbs) as they fill me unnecessarily and don't sit well in my gut for the most part.

My day typically looks something like this (at least, this is what I plan to eat today): (and keep in mind, I am 8.5 years post-op) (also due to restriction I still drink a protein shake or 2 to meet my protein goals - and I like the ones I've listed)

 - coffee with cream x 4 over the day, also water sipping of course -

B - Source Greek 50 yogurt, Premier protein shake

S - ham/cheese/pickle roll-ups x2

L - crustless quiche (baked in a regular sized muffin tin, equal to 1 egg, 1.5 oz meat and cheese, veggies), sliced cucumber and tomato on the side

S - Chike protein iced coffee OR homemade salsa scooped up with baked parmesan chips OR 1/2 cup tuna salad and a couple of crackers (basically a protein snack)

D - 3 oz meatloaf, lemon-basil green beans & mushrooms

S - some sort of tea "fog" (made with 1% milk, tea bag, a shot of sugar free syrup)

K.

Edited for clarity.

Thanks, right now I have to wait a half hour after  I eat to drink anything, will I always have to ?

I usually still do - very rarely I will take a small sip for dryness, other than that I wait as I find adding liquid on top makes me too full/barfy. ;)

I'm sorry, but what is a RH episode?  People use abbreviations a lot on this site and some of use may not know what they mean.

I don't always eat, it straightens itself out on its own typically. If I must eat, I try to pick something with mainly protein.
