How do you know when you begin maintenance?

Looking too skinny is part of the journey.  It is smart to lose 10, 20 or 30 pounds under your goal weight.  Have fun with being skinny.  The body will level out again and a 20 pound regain is normal.  Maintenance starts after that leveling out.  So true maintenance and being a vet begins three years after surgery.

I will remember this too.

*Note to self* start saving all 6-10s, even if I shrink out of them.

I am no where near goal, but I know when this question comes up at the Hospital Support group the Nurses and Dieticians always say, not to worry your body will figure it out on it's own. I think the too skinny look sometimes is also because your body needs time to adjust to the new weight, and people's comments are because they are just not used to seeing you that thin.

I agree that people comment because they are not used to us being thin. I had people at church telling me I was too thin when I was still overweight by the bmi charts. I just ignored them and went to where my body wanted to be. I went as low as I could to allow for regain and because I have rheumatoid arthritis and can't take NSAIDS now. The lower weight has made a huge difference in joint pain.

I set my goal weight at 150.  Decided to lose a few extra, my new gw is 145.  At 146 I have people begging me to stop losing weight.

I am still considered overweight by BMI charts and feel I could go as low at 135-140.  I'm going to let my pouch take me where it wants to and decide from there and account for the 10-20 lb rebound.

No, I did not gain while maintaining. I am over two years out and have lost down to 125 pounds.  I got to 130 about at one year and have lost 5 or so pounds in the last 14 months. I am 5'4 and wear a 2-4 bottom and s- xs tops.

I am paranoid of regain so if I go up a few I make sure I taper off the calories a bit for a week.  I average 1500 calories daily ( 5 times daily, 300 calories)
