Does it take time to "Kick In"?

I am curious about something. I have seen some posts where people say that after the gastric bypass surgery it could take time to "kick in". I am curious about this. Does that mean it will take time to feel full? Can anyone explain this to me? Also, if this is true, does anyone know the reason why?  Thanks

I have never seen a post that used that description. I have no idea what it could mean.

I've never seen anything describing it that way (and I have been here for 8 years), but I guess I can see how someone might describe the sense of fullness that way.

Some people don't feel fullness right away after surgery. Some people will tell you that you cannot feel full right away because the nerves were cut during surgery, but that isn't universaly true.  Many of us can attest to the fact that some people DO feel full right away.  I was on soft foods again on Day Three post op, and after two bites of scrambled egg and one bite of cream of wheat (yuck!), I  definitely felt full, and continued to feel full after that.

Thanks. Thats what I was talking about. I heard someone say that the nerves were cut during surgery so you can not feel full right away but that it kicks in later. I am concerned about my situation. I have gotten a full feeling a couple times...but mostly, I don't. I stop eating because I am measuring and only eating what I should for the most part. But I do feel that I could keep on going. I am being strong now but I am a little worried because if being strong was all it took...I wouldnt have needed the surgery in the first place! (this is my second surgery. I was revised from the lapband on 11/20/14.)

I'm a revision from band to rny.  I am worried as well because this week I feel that I am eating more than what I should. I don't know if it's mental... I do stop myself but I don't know. I'm worried because I am also at a 3 week stall and haven't lost any weight. ..

Im right there with ya. There is so much contradicting information out there, its hard to even know what to listen to, and its hard to ignore the opposing opinions.

I had RNY Dec3. For the first week on liquids, I had no appetite. The novelty of eating again and the interesting purée I ate left me with no problem eating 3 3 oz meals plus 1 shake and one Greek yogurt. Beginning Christmas Eve I was allowed to eat soft foods. At that point, I began to feel full every time I ate, and can only do about 2 oz at a time. Now when I do my shake divided in two with high protein milk twice a day, and a Greek Yogurt, I can barely get in one other 3 oz meal. I feel full all the time at week 4.

Thanks for the info. I dont really feel full too often. I more get symptoms that make me not want to eat anymore. feeling disgusted with the food half way through it, or just in general not feeling well. That leads me to push the food away. I can just remember about 3 times that I felt like I was full and wasnt able to finish my "meal"

When I had my surgery and when i got to have soft foods again, I was only able to eat 3-4 bites then I was full. Now, over time you will be able to eat more-at least a cup of food by month 3 or so.

You should NOT be able to eat an entire cup of food by three months out! By 9-12 months out, but not just three months out.
