i need a quick relief for extreme gas pain throughout my abdomen. Had surgery July 10. I dont think pain killer will allow me to release the gas. By the way, gases does not work. I have heating pad on my back. Stomach is quite hard and bloated. Pain is incredible.

you could call your dr, you are only 8 days out from surgery, you maybe constipated, laxative may help ask your dr which one you could use.

Thanks.. Dr told me. To take milk of magnesia and I can take Tylenol but nothing stronger. Apparently pain killers cause constipation. Drink as much water as possible. I was walking a lot earlier now in bed. I could go to emergency if it doesn't subside. I put a heating pad on low. I'm glad I like the heat because it's a hot night.

I second the notion that constipation may be the issue, but if it is gas, I found lying on my left side and getting up and moving as much as possible to be the biggest help.

Nix the painkillers or go see your surgeon.  No one should be in THAT much pain 8 days after surgery.  We all should expect a little discomfort after surgery, but you know what is causing it and frequent ambulation should help a ton (unless you are SSMO)

I would take 500 mg of magnesium 2 x day and if that fails, a good fleet enema should do it!  I take this magnesum EVERY day and along with many others on here, have done so for years.

You are probably opiate sensitive.  some people are more than others.  I'm like that.

follow the docs rules.  MOM, lots of water, and you have to move as much as possible.  it helps to get things moving.

My doctor sent me home with a liquid stool softener just in case I had this issue. The have told me now to use Miralax in case I'm feeling constipated. It works. :)
