A week into pre-op liquids - my joints hurt/ache

Hey there! Long time follower, first time poster. Really appreciate any advice!

My RNY is next Thurs 10/22 and I've been on my liquids for a week now. For some reason, I've been super achy and tired (I don't drink coffee, that could be it) and my joints (particularly knees and shoulders) have been really hurting and tender. I've been getting 70g protein per day with my shakes, so I thought that was enough, but maybe it's not?

Any advice?

Now that I think about it, it kind of feels like a cold (body aches)? I have a slight sore throat too... Slightly worried if this will affect my surgery date, do you know if they'd pu**** back?

Take two Advil and call your doctor.

sounds like detox from carbs and sugar to. Me. Detoxing from that is like having the flu for some of us.

You might increase your other fluids also. Are you getting 64+ oz of liquid a day?

I think you're right! I found a bunch of articles about the "low carb flu" - considering I've gone from fries/chocolate every day to soup/protein shakes only, that makes a lot of sense and gives me a lot of encouragement to get better. Going to the doctor (GP, not surgeon) and hopefully he'll solve it.

Thank you guys so much! I love this forum!!!!

The fact that you are taking your pre-op diet seriously is a GREAT sign for your long-term success.

Hang in there.

My doctor said "a kid probably just sneezed in your face, you're fine" and prescribed antibiotics (amoxicillin)... Just gotta add a few more to the list of pills to be crushed post-op.

Best of luck and I am glad you are doing well on your pre-op liquid! I started mine on 10/5 and have felt full the entire time! I however have not been doing alot of jello and broth...only protein shakes and water. My DR recommends 100 grams of protein a day though to really through your body into Kitosis! Good Luck! I have my Revision from lap band to RNY Monday morning! Cant wait to listen about your experience!
