Weight gain after RNY

Thank you Amy!  I have not been on here in a loooonnng time.  I have been the same weight for two years.  The last 6 months I have gained 15.  I came here to look for what you wrote.  I hope you don't mind I copied it to print it :)

You are so right I just can't seem to do it this time. But after reading your post I'm going to really try. I eat sweets I get very sick dumping and sweating. I still can't hold much at each meal . I agree it is what I eat I have the right foods in my freezer right now. I do feel my stomach holds more than it did 2 years ago. I don't drink enough water and I drink lots of diet drinks. But there are foods that I know I'm not suppose to eat and I don't, but for some reason I will eat some foods that I know I'm not suppose to anyway. Thanks for your input I really do appreciate it. I'm going to try REALLY hard and start ALL over again. But I'm still going to read up on the Revision if I'm not successful.

I had open roux-en-y in July 2002. I lost 130 lbs. But in August 2005, had gained 70 lbs. I fluctuated, losing then gaining that weight back with no explaination. I was rarely full, and had a gnawing stomach pain very often. In May 2012 I found out that I had a gastro gastric fistula connecting my new pouch to my old stomach. I had a barium swallow and an endoscopy throat scope that diagnosed the fistula. I had a stent put in thru the throat scope to try and close the opening, nut it didn't work. So mu new bariatric surgeon in the area scheduled a revision to close the fistula in July 2012.

The fistula repair was unsuccessful. So since July 2012, I have contined to fluctuate with my weight. I deal with almost constant hunger and stomach pain. a different doc back up in NY was willing to try again to repair fistula and take out old stomach, but I cancelled my surgery because my family and I moved down south and I didn't even have a ride available to get to and from the hospital, or have anyone to help me around post op. Now this doctor in Savannah won't even schedule a follow up with me from the liquid swallow chest stomach xrays he too****il I quit smoking and have 3 nicotine free urine tests. I'm pretty frustrated. I also found out that I do have two fistulas and extensive pouch dialation.

Fistulas are not too common. But it would explain weight gain, as it pretty much reverses the procedure. An upper GI and Endoscopy can diagnose a gastro-gastric fistula. If you want, you could ask our doctor to do an upper GI/endoscopy and see if that's what is going on. It's called a "mechanical failure" when this happens, and most insurance companies will cover revision surgery becausr it's deemed a complication to original wls.
