Pre WLS, I remember signing and do follow an agreement for yearly appointments. It has been wise for me to do so because I want the staff to be welcoming in the event of further complications (bowel obstruction surgery is no fun). From my last visit, it is appreciated and noticeable employees have been carefully trained how to discuss regain with gentle care.

not four years out yet, but I still go to my bariatric surgeon because my insurance covers it and it's in town. If neither of those were the case, my PCP would do it. My surgeon would be able to see the results because they both use Epic software.

I haven't seen my surgeon for 13.5 years (he's long retired). My PCP orders my labs and there's nothing wrong with me such that I need a surgeon consult or to see a dietician. My PCP is a youngish guy who is very up to date on research and I'm not his only patient who's had an RNY, I'm just the most compliant (according to him)

Honestly, I know more about how I live my life than any surgeon or dietician could tell me, but then I'm very much the driver of my own healthcare in all aspects.

What happens if you do need a Surgeon with problem related to your RHY, who would you go to?

Any general/bariatric surgeon. I have my surgery notes, so they have as much access to my history that my original surgeon would have.

I recommend EVERY ONE get their surgical notes for EVERY surgery they ever have. It's not like your surgeon remembers what he did or what happened to every patient they ever do surgery on. They rely on their surgery notes!!!!

Honestly, 14 years out, it's highly unlikely that anything that went "wrong" with me would have much to do with my surgery. It's possible to be connected to RNY, like say a hernia or ulcer, but any general surgeon would be able to deal with them.
