Still feeling nauseous

I know I'm probably expecting too much too quickly but I'm five days out of surgery and still feeling quite nauseous - especially in the morning. Today I can hardly even stomach the thought of getting water done yet I know it is so important that I do it. Is this common? Does anyone remember how long this will last? This forum has been such a source of support, I can't thank you all enough.

If I recall, I was still experiencing...not quite nausea, but definite aversion to almost everything. In my case it was mostly just feeling burnt out from all the liquids, and I was SO ready to have a new flavor and texture.

Stick with it, and before you know it this part is barely a blip on the radar. Instead of plain water, try herbal teas. I love Tazo's glazed lemon loaf flavor. In my case, switching to hot drinks made things easier, and tea isn't as sweet as all the shakes, jello, etc etc. while I generally sweeten my tea, I left it black then, just for a different flavor profile.

Thanks, my nurse actually suggested warm tea or broth to help ease my stomach distress. I only have six more shakes to go and then I'm on to pureed foods!

Dehydration can cause nausea so your full time job right now is to sip, sip, sip. At this poin****er is more important than vitamins or protein. Are you on a PPI?

I'm really diligent about sipping water all day and I'm not showing any other signs of dehydration (except for the nausea). I don't know what a PPl is but if it is a liquid diet, then yes but only for two more days. I can tolerate the vitamins right now thank goodness.

PPI is an acid reducer. In some programs, I think people were given them initially after surgery or when they showed tummy troubles or heartburn.

i second the try warm beverages, I still find it easier to get my 100 oz when I have hot drinks!

Thanks and no I'm not on an acid reducer. I'm going to try the warm beverages tomorrow. My stomach is too upset to try anything tonight.

OP: Was your surgery on Nov 12 or Dec 12? If the latter, you should update your profile as it currently displays "RNY on 11/12/18."

I don't think she's American lol, so 11th December may be written 11/12/18.

You are right . . . I'm Canadian and my surgery was on December 12th!
